Kind of another random thread with nothing specific. Feel free to go in depth

1. Recommend a book.
2. Recommend a movie.
3. Recommend a TV show.
4. Describe your views on social issues.
5. Describe your views on economic issues.
6. What is your most passionate issue?

8. What stances of your own party do you oppose? (Surely, one party cannot be the absolute truth... or can it be?)

1. Recommend a book.
Seinfeld & Philosophy, Bono In Conversation.

2. Recommend a movie.
Back To The Future.

3. Recommend a TV show.
Again, Seinfeld. TV sucks for the most part.

4. Describe your views on social issues.
Mostly conservative, founded on protecting the innocent and living up to moral, humane, and constitutional standards.

5. Describe your views on economic issues.
Centrist. Excessive business regulations get annoying, but from time to time, the government should step in to maintain the environment and uphold safe working conditions. 100% Anti-Peta. Pro-capitalism, overall.

6. What is your most passionate issue?
Probably abortion, but other things piss me off too.

7. Name and describe the biggest lunatic in your political party.
Arnold - still, not a professional politician, not really a responsible one, either.
Rudy - go ahead and join the democrats, you pathetic trader.

8. What stances of your own party do you oppose? (Surely, one party cannot be the absolute truth... or can it be?)
I'm more into "a mouth for an eye" rather than an eye for an eye. Give prisoners a mental hell on earth. No talking, one meal a day, no TV, no radio. Books only, no pictures included.

9. Who should run in 2008?
John McCain. To be honest, anyone but Rudy Clinton Giuliani.

10. Do you believe we will capture Osama bin Laden?
There's always hope, I believe we will.

1. Recommend a book.
Devil in the White City

2. Recommend a movie.
Dead Poet's Society

3. Recommend a TV show.
Six Feet Under, 24

4. Describe your views on social issues.
Mostly liberal, founded on protecting the innocent, living up to moral, humane, and constitutional standards. Reaching and promoting equality and helping those that need it.

5. Describe your views on economic issues.
Pretty moderate in my economic stances, it really depends on the paticular issue.

6. What is your most passionate issue?
Equality.

7. Name and describe the biggest lunatic in your political party.
Haven't found a party. Most politicians are part lunatic.

8. What stances of your own party do you oppose? I can't stand any party that doesn't have a backbone and caters too much to certain groups that really don't fit into their true platform but brings them votes. Unfortunately that describes both of the major parties.

9. Who should run in 2008?
Obama

10. Do you believe we will capture Osama bin Laden?
God only knows.

1. Recommend a book.
The Bible; Blue Like Jazz, Donald Miller; Walk On — The Spiritual Journey of U2, Steve Stockman

2. Recommend a movie.
La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc, 1928. Brilliant silent film. Very moving and artistic. Way ahead of its time.

3. Recommend a TV show.
Simpsons, Family Guy and Extreme, Makeover: Home Edition — the joy these people feel on this show is only a fraction of what we'll feel in heaven.

4. Describe your views on social issues.
I'm in the middle of things. I don't side with either major political party. I go from the Bible.

5. Describe your views on economic issues.
I guess fair trade and dropping the debt are big now, or SHOULD be big now.

6. What is your most passionate issue?
Right now it's stuff tied to Africa. The AIDS situation there IS terribly serious. I'm not just into it because Bono is. It's truly a human rights issue. I'm pissed that Christians aren't doing what they should to help out more, especially when many of the nations with the highest infection rates are Christian nations. I'm also into helping the situation in Sudan, where Christians in the south have been attacked by the muslim government in the north for too long.

7. Name and describe the biggest lunatic in your political party.
Me.

8. What stances of your own party do you oppose? (Surely, one party cannot be the absolute truth... or can it be?)
I'll say one for each party. I'm against abortion and against the death penalty.

9. Who should run in 2008?
I'm not sure yet. I could go for McCain, but we'll see. Obama from the dems is cool too. (There, there's one from each party.)

10. Do you believe we will capture Osama bin Laden?
Yes. I truly believe in the very near future we will capture him or we will learn of his death.

1. Recommend a book.

_Atonement_, Ian McEwan

2. Recommend a movie.

"Walk on Water" -- a beautiful, intelligent Israeli move that effortlessly hits on a million-and-one social issues

3. Recommend a TV show.

"The L Word." ultra-glossy production makes *me* want to be a lesbian who lives in Los Angeles. and has money.

4. Describe your views on social issues.

compassionate libertarian.

5. Describe your views on economic issues.

moderate. the government needs to regulate business and protect those most vulnerable to capitalism. i'm not a socialist, but capitalism has some really evil side effects, and it should behoove a society to protect thsoe most vulnerable.

6. What is your most passionate issue?

education, of all kinds.

7. Name and describe the biggest lunatic in your political party.

i'm a registered Republican, but would never vote for a Republican who didn't live in New England (seriously). Democrats: Zell Miller; Republicans: Sam Brownback, John Cronyn

8. What stances of your own party do you oppose? (Surely, one party cannot be the absolute truth... or can it be?)

they seem to the be the lesser of two evils, so they're kind of the default; it's more about who i disagree less with.

9. Who should run in 2008?

i haven't a clue.

10. Do you believe we will capture Osama bin Laden?

no.

Book: "Prayer for Owen Meany"--John Irving
"You Can't Go Home Again" Thomas Wolfe

Movie: Godfather Part II, Cool Hand Luke (Obviously, I haven't
been to the movies for a while.)

TV Show: Boston Legal

Social Issues: Live and Let Live, Don't cross my boundaries,
I won't cross yours. Protect those who need to be
protected, respect those who deserve to be respected,
don't let the powerful get too powerful or the greedy
get too greedy, do what you can.

Economic: Fluctuating between socialist and capitalist,
depending on what side is creeping me out more
any given day.

Passionate issue: Setting higher standards for behavior,
education, the press, the culture, the arts. Raising the
bar.

Lunatic in my party: More concerned about how mediocre they
all are.

Disagree with my party: Although I am an
Independent, I don't like the Republican
party much. So for the Democrats, I dislike
political correctness, disregard of personal
responsibility, condescending attitude. I think
the Republican spokespeople are delusional.

Who should run: Don't know that I really care anymore.

Osama bin Laden: No.

1. Recommend a book.

"Independent Feature Film Production," by Gregory Goodell :sexywink:

2. Recommend a movie.

"Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes)," the Spanish film that turned into "Vanilla Sky."

3. Recommend a TV show.

I'm really into "Law and Order: SVU" lately. How strange of me.

4. Describe your views on social issues.

Leftist, although I don't specifically tow any party lines. I try and conform to secular humanist ideals when I think about how social issues should be presented in society.

5. Describe your views on economic issues.

A self-styled, modified Keynesian capitalism. I think capitalism is due for an update, as I believe that supply-side economics has hit a stagnant dead end.

6. What is your most passionate issue?

Gay rights and freedom from religion.

7. Name and describe the biggest lunatic in your political party.

Where is Zell Miller when I need him?

8. What stances of your own party do you oppose? (Surely, one party cannot be the absolute truth... or can it be?)

They're spineless on too many issues. That's my biggest beef.

We should crack down on illegal immigration, while we should open legal immigration avenues to binational gay couples, as there is currently no legal avenue for their partners to immigrate here, unless they're "fortunate" enough to be from a bigoted third-world country, where they can apply for asylum.

Most of my beefs with the Democratic Party are less to do with their current stances than it is with the stances that they are either half-assed or silent about.

9. Who should run in 2008?

I always liked Eliot Spitzer (NY AG), but he's running for NY Governor. Maybe he's a good 2012 choice, if the Democrats don't win in 2008.

The sad thing is, I can't think of any other high-profile Democratic candidate besides Hillary Clinton.

10. Do you believe we will capture Osama bin Laden?

Good question.

8. What stances of your own party do you oppose? (Surely, one party cannot be the absolute truth... or can it be?)
again, i'm not affiliated with a party, but i am sick of the mud-slinging smear campaigns that seem to have replaced genuine political debate. even our politics have devolved into dumbed-down info-tainment to appeal to the masses.

9. Who should run in 2008?

6. What is your most passionate issue?
Meh, apathy maybe.

7. Name and describe the biggest lunatic in your political party.
Well I am the only member of my political party so that would make me both the sanest member and the biggest lunatic wouldn't it.

8. What stances of your own party do you oppose? (Surely, one party cannot be the absolute truth... or can it be?)

9. Who should run in 2008?
Dr. Condoleezza Rice

10. Do you believe we will capture Osama bin Laden?
Nope, he is either a smear in a collapsed cave along the Afghani-Pakistani border or is so out of the game as to make him essentially dead. He probably does not pose a threat to the US, Islamist terrorism however does.
