I think this was a good decision, but I probably think that because I am anti-death-penalty all the way, all the time. Humans shouldn't have that kind of power. While it's a lame-duck kind of thing to do, I'm sure no one in Illinois was shocked by it, given Ryan's well-known and long-standing conviction against the death penalty.

Martha-- it could be considered a political move because Gov. Ryan is leaving office on Monday, his term is over. Some people could think he's trying to protect his legacy. If he saves an innocent person from death, people will forget about the other stuff. [and actually, I do remember hearing that the license for bribes thing was a common occurance before Ryan because Sec. of State. Not giving him excuses, just another side of the issue.]
