Well, the situation in the Battleground States has reversed itself from where it was in the Spring.

The Blue Battleground States:

Oregon
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Michigan
Pennsylvania
New Hampshire

These Blue Battleground States are at the moment solid Blue or turning solid Blue. Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and New Hampshire were at one point going red.

The Red Battleground States:

Nevada
New Mexico
Colorado
Iowa
Missouri
Ohio
Florida
Indiana
Virginia

There are now two more Red States that have turned into Battleground States, Indiana and Virginia. McCain once held solid leads in Ohio, Indiana, and Virginia but now these states are in the toss up catagory. Plus, Colorado and Iowa are now essentially solid blue since McCain has never led in a single poll in these states.

At the moment, the following Blue and Red Battleground states look solid blue:

Oregon
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Michigan
Pennsylvania
New Hampshire
Colorado
Iowa

The following Red Battleground states are a toss up:

New Mexico
Ohio
Indiana
Virginia

The following Red Battleground states are leaning or are solid Red:

Nevada
Missouri
Florida

If McCain can manage to win the 4 toss up Red Battleground States then he will win the election. On the other hand, Obama only has to win 1 of the 4 toss up Red Battleground States. It appears McCain is more on the defensive now when looking at the individual state match ups, in contrast to the Spring where he looked like he could go on the offensive in several Blue States. The national polls continue to tighten up though.

It's too early to call many of the battleground states, as VP picks could easily sway some states.

This is just where I see the race standing as of today, or if the election were to be held today. Things could definitely change, but within a week of the last convention, trends will probably start to solidify.
