Banning School Dances

Calif. Principal Bans 'Freak Dancing'

Associated Press

LEMOORE, Calif. - Fed up with students' racy moves, a principal at a California high school has taken the unusual step of canceling the rest of this year's school dances.

Principal Jim Bennett of Lemoore Union High School said he warned students at a winter formal dance last month to either quit dirty dancing or face the possibility of not dancing at all.

But he said the students continued "freak dancing," a form of sexually suggestive dancing that involves grinding the hips and pelvic area.

It's like Footloose but with a different soundtrack.

Is that like Elaine from Seinfeld type dancing?

It would be weird to see young teenagers doing some of those dances-some of them they may as well just have sex on the dance floor.

Stop the dance and they'll have it somewhere else At least with the dance they might think of something else to do.

You think Mr. Bennett cares if the students do it elsewhere? My money says he doesn't. He didn't want students dirty dancing at school dances because then if anything were to happen - aka dirty dancing leads to sex, somebody gets pregnant - parents could blame the school, Mr. Bennett for it. If the students have their dance elsewhere, Mr. Bennett won't care because no matter what happens there, he can't get blamed for it.

Most school dances I have wittnessed are out of control because some teens and even younger kids do not have any manners or self control. They ruin it for all the others who know how to act in public and show good behavior.
I taught school and I can certainly understand why the principal made that decision.

Let them do it somewhere else! The point is, people who dont behave like that, dont want to be around that kind of behavior. Let them go home and let their parents deal with it!

These discussions are interesting, you can often tell those who has kids vs. those who don't (or those who ARE kids).

How can they prove a baby was conceived because of the dance, they might have been 'doing it' every day that week.

BTW I'm a 35 year old mother of 3 dr. teeth.

Can he?

Mr. Bennett is responsible for the school and school-related functions.

I'm sure there is more to this decision than reported in the news.

Technically they can't, but they can get a good enough lawyer. They get paid to lie and make stuff up.
