Read about it here.

One rosy reassurance after another has been handed down by President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld: "mission accomplished," the insurgency is "in its last throes," and "back off," we know what we're doing, are a few choice examples.

...

For two years, American sergeants, captains and majors training the Iraqis have told their bosses that Iraqi troops have no sense of national identity, are only in it for the money, don't show up for duty and cannot sustain themselves.

Meanwhile, colonels and generals have asked their bosses for more troops. Service chiefs have asked for more money.

And all along, Rumsfeld has assured us that things are well in hand.

Now, the president says he'll stick with Rumsfeld for the balance of his term in the White House.

This is a mistake.

Meanwhile, the NeoCons like Richard Perle are running away from the Bush Administration at lightning speed, per a new article in Vanity Fair.

Heckuva job!

The sad thing is that it is a total mess regardless of who says whatever. I heard about Richard Perle tonight too, now that's a turnaround considering he was one of the chief architects and defenders of this whole debacle. At least someone has seen the light. Too bad this whole thing has turned so political since it is now a human tragedy on a grand scale.

"UNHCR now estimates that 1.8 million Iraqis are living in neighboring countries and 1.6 million are displaced internally, but those numbers include many who fled during the 1990s, long before the invasion, Redmond said. As of July, Iraq's population was estimated at 26.7 million."

It is beyond fixing now no matter what they do. There are so many groups(death squads, suicide bombers, insurgents, Kurds, Shias, Sunnis, Turkey, Iran, Syria, US forces, British forces, Iraqi government, US government, etc) involved in this now, it is uncontrollable and unpredictable. Unfortunately for the Dems, even if they manage to win on Tuesday, they will be expected to clean up Dubya's mess. Dubya is used to others taking care of his screwups his whole life so why should things change now?
