An Imperfect God

So does anyone believe there is a God but that He is not perfect--or all-knowing or all- powerful?

For people who believe in God, this would be a contradiction in terms.

Because being all-powerful and all-knowing is inherent in the definition of God...and Allah...and Yahweh.

Now the Greek Gods, Zeus included were Immortal, but not necessarily perfect like the God of monotheism.
So if you want to discuss god with imperfections you'll have to go back to earlier interpretations of THe Devine

Christianity, Judaism and Islam all define their one God the same: omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent, so BonoSaint's question asking for someone who believes in a less than all powerful god is an oxymoron.
Unless there's a new monotheism out there floating around.
Is the pagan god(s) all-powerful?

BonosSaint,
I think there are people who believe that God makes mistakes and not all-knowing and all-powerful. I do not understand, how they think he could be God, but I do believe I've heard of people who believe that way.

Here's a question similar to yours: Do people who worship Satan think he is not perfect--or all-knowing or all- powerful? I doubt anyone here worships Satan, but does anyone know what they think in those regards?

So we're calling people who practice Buddhism, Hinduism, and traditional Chinese religion(s) pagans these days, are we?

I don't think the word "God" only refers to monotheism.

I did a report on modern Satanism for high school last year. I think thier position, if I remember correctly, was that Satan wasn't so much a deity as much as a representation of the things Satanists follow. Satanism is a reaction to Christianity. So to answer your question, Satanists don't feel that Satan is perfect. The very ideas behind Satan call for an imperfect figure, a more human figure. If that makes sense.

Actually, the few pagans I've come across are Pagan and Proud, baby! For those who are pagans I don't think there's any shame associated with that designatiion. Now the term "heathen" is a different story. That's pretty much derogatory.

Anyway, if you're talking about capital-G God you are talking about the three main monotheistic religions. The question would have needed to properly phrased as "Does anyone who believes in God or gods. . ."

My Hindu friends don't appreciate being referred to as "pagans."

In my experience, it does not have a positive connotation.

I thnk that a malevolent but largely incompetent god is plausible.

That's because Hindus are not pagans, and thus should not be referred to as such. I was just pointing out there are actual self-professed Pagans. It's a legitimate religion.

Mislabeling your Hindu friends demonstrates offensive ignorance, yes, but it doesn't mean the term "pagan" itself is offensive.

But I see your point based on JCR's post.

I'm not really looking for the views of organized religions or religions with a specific theology. I'm looking more for individual views.

Depending on your definition, I'm not sure that's possible.
