Here is another article

Quote:
Clinton: Bono Succeeded Where I Failed

By The Associated Press
NEW YORK - Bill Clinton thinks Bono is a leader "we should follow in the new millennium."

The former president praised the lead singer of U2 Friday at a celebrity-packed reception honoring Bono's charitable work, most notably his efforts at promoting awareness of the AIDS (news - web sites) epidemic and famine in Africa.
Clinton credited the rock star with helping close partisan gaps and getting Congress to pass a bill to provide debt relief for Africa.
"He did something I couldn't do: He convinced Jesse Helms (former Republican senator from North Carolina) to be for it," Clinton said, adding: "I love this man because he has a mind and a heart."
In accepting the award from the recording industry charity MusiCares, Bono talked about possible U.S. military action against Iraq.
"We do not need to make a martyr out of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)," said Bono, a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize last year. "It is not as simple as war or no war. These are complex problems, and we need complex solutions."
Besides Clinton, others feting Bono were New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, singer David Bowie (news) and actor Robert De Niro (news).
Gwen Stefani (news), Mary J. Blige, B.B. King, Jimmy Fallon (news) and Wynonna Judd (news) were among those performing at the event.
i guess bloomberg qualifies as a "Republican" so it can be a bi-partican event.

Even though publicly he has been silent, Im beginning to read between the lines..as GabrielVox suggested.
He doesnt support the USA in Iraq, this is now my assesment.

Many of you were correct for him not coming out openly too, saying he didnt want to piss off this Administration.

So this is a public acknowedgement of diamondbruno being blissfully hopeful re Bono's agenda, and me, diamondbruno being wrong.

Thats ok though, I still love the man.
His music has keep me high for 2 decades strong now.
Even though I have only agreed w/a portion of his politics, I love the man's large heart.

And for the record, I support the USA ridding Saddam saving hundreds of thosands of Iraqis anymore future bloodshed by this manacital-sp dictator.

Peace

well diamond, i guess you have to ask yourself "does it really matter what bono thinks?"

i mean he's not God.

he's just like you and me. though you and i respect him, i hope you dont suddenly become opposed to american aggression in iraq simply because you feel bono is.

make up your own mind with what you've heard.

Well it'd be a good analogy if you could just go in and take Saddam out without causing harm to anyone else. Sadly the reality is different - attacking Iraq will kill and injure hundreds of thousands of people.

Of course I guess you could argue that cancer surgery isn't ever that simple either. So maybe the analogy isn't that flawed

Bono is a leader "we should follow in the new millennium."

Give yer head a shake if you think Bush has a better idealogy than Bono.

Though reality would probably prevent me , I would tend to think Bono is a humanitarian first... Socialist second. His vague 'read between the lines' statements on Iraq lead me to believe that he knows how terrible the Saddam regime is, and though he won't endorse a military policy to clean up Iraq, Bono is intelligent enough to acknowledge the fact that a liberation from Saddam can ultimately can satisfy his War on Poverty Schtick and the Iraqis will have their Human Rights returned (Granted the Aftermath situation is handled properly).

Though my better judgement would be to believe that Bono is taking a page from the environmentalists book and using his War on Poverty MO just as they environmentalists use their 'Save the Rainforests' MO... All the while covering up their real motivation.. Anti-Capitalism.

Sorry Diamond

Beefeater.

.
See the above quote is sad.
Clinton, at 1 time a world leader is still searching for his own legacy and is attempting to paint Bono as a Jesus figure.
A former president riding on a rockstar's shirt-tails..

Sad.

Bono-

It is not as simple as war or no war. These are complex problems, and we need complex solutions."

Ahhh.. yes. Bono is now all grown up. Sometime a complex solution includes military build up and the threat to carry through with your actions - if you don't comply.

War or not - it's just not that simple.
