i can't think of anything more healthy for the country than for the republicans to lose control of congress in 2006 -- bush, drunk on power and a sense of entitlement manifest in his willingness to break the law whenever and wherever he feels like it, needs a strong opposition in order to keep him in check.

i'd say the same things if the party power imbalance were in the reverse and Al Gore had been wiretapping gay student groups at NYU.

Yah I think the republicans are going to have a very hard time keeping their majority in Congress with the 2006 elections . They are SOOOOO corrupt it is amazing! In the last year there have been enough scandals and prolems for them to last a decade

Abramoff Scandal
Scooter Libby (? Karl Rove ? ? Dick Cheney?) Scandal
Randy "Duke" Cunningham Scandal
NSA Wiretap Scandal
I might be forgetting 1 or 2 more...

Anyway, I think they are pretty much done until they can get themselves together, and if you are like me, you hope that itsn't for a very long time.....

There's been plenty in my office. We decided this and the Senate blocking Arctic drilling were pretty damn good holiday gifts.

CNN says Harry Reid is one of the congressmen who has chosen NOT to return his Abramoff-linked money (some $61,000 apparently).

I think we're wisely waiting for more information.

And realizing that this hits both parties

Democrats Benefited from Abramoff Contributions, Too

With both sides caught with their hands in the cookie jar, no one will play this card too hard.

No, the democrats can't come out squeaky clean, but they're definitely not in nearly as much trouble as the republicans are.
