RAMALLAH, West Bank (AFP) - PLO chairman Mahmud Abbas vowed to end the suffering of the Palestinian people after his landslide victory in the presidential election which he dedicated to the late Yasser Arafat

All I can say is that I hope that he doesn't fufill all of his election promises, if he can just do the opposite of what he told the electorate then he may well be a catalyst for peace. If he sucessfully manages to cut a peace deal without sparking a Palestinian civil war then that would be good however that is a most difficult task, he lacks the support that Arafat enjoyed and is neither a hardliner or a moderate, if he tries to play the dove then he will probably be deposed or killed by his rivals because of his "weakness" and then the entire playing field shifts again.

hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

Israel is running out of time.

It will be difficult
but Sharon should take advantage of this opportunity and stop letting settler extremists win the day.
