I was watching the O'Reilly Factor last night and saw this story. Even with all you hear about kids being sexually active and what can go on in schools, this still shocked me. The stories all seem conflicting-but according to what was on O'Reilly last night (he interviewed two parents, not the parents of the kids involved-and a reporter for the factor interviewed the superintendent) it was intercourse. Obviously even if it wasn't, sex acts of any type shouldn't be going on during class.

http://www.wthr.com/Global/story.asp?S=6224071

"The Superintendent says there are changes on the way at Raymond Park and the district. For starters, the tops of the cubicles will come down so that teachers can see clearly what's going on. Secondly, the district says it will look at improving communications, possibly hiring a media professional and adding sex ed classes.

The two students involved in the sexual act were expelled. The teacher, nor two alleged "look outs" were disciplined.

I think he was most outraged at the superintendent and her possible lying or omission of facts, not sure..but I do have to say I think "outrage" (not so much outrage as concern and thought as to why a situation like that would occur) over this is justified, but at the same time 12 year olds are having sex and it's much more productive to be concerned about why and how we can prevent it. I don't think 12 year olds should be having sex period , or having sex during class. I have to wonder about their parents and what their contribution could possibly be to make these kids think it was ok to do that during a class. I don't want to place blame on them without knowing all the facts, but I just wonder.

Apparently the teacher was going back and forth between two classrooms, and they had a "lookout".

This is what he said, of course he used it for more of his secular progressive ranting..

"Now this incident happened in December and Dr. Hinckley still doesn't know all the details. I guess she has better things to do.

According to the Indianapolis Star, which has done good work on the story, the two students who did have sex have been expelled. And I really feel sorry for those children. Can you imagine what kind of upbringing they have?

And by the way, the national media has largely ignored the story because it reflects poorly on the secular progressive atmosphere that has taken over many school districts.

But clear-thinking Americans know that things are out of control in many schools and not just the poor ones. The Westchester School District is affluent. The Indianapolis one, middle class.

The end game here is this: The superintendents in both cases should be removed immediately. The teacher in the sex case, fired. And the three deceitful girls suspended for two days, period.

And that's The Memo."

(Westchester refers to the Vagina Monologues case, he was hot and bothered about that)

figures.

this is a terrible story, but i don't think that 12 year olds across the country are having sex in classrooms because of secular progressives. it seems like this is quite an isolated incident, but also a perfect opportunity to advance his overall M.O. -- damn those secular progressives! -- and sell more books.

I like to know what the enemy is up to

Seriously, it's healthy to watch shows that conflict with your viewpoints. Why watch only those that you agree with? And I have to channel surf during Idol anyway.

Always good to listen to the enemy. I think O'Reilly is a pompous, self-righteous, paranoid narcissist. However, Hannity and Limbaugh make him sound reasonable. Perspective. Perspective.
I can tolerate him.

This is disturbing whether it happened or not. Nothing remotely near this kind of activity should be going on with 6th graders let alone between anyone on a school campus, near minors....

My son told me things that went on at his high school involving sex acts, drugs and drinking right under the noses of school officials and teachers that are appalling actually. I think MTV and the media has corrupted our youth!

I have two questions:

1) Why was only one teacher doing supervising two classrooms?

and

2) what does the sentence quoted below mean? I suspect it's supposed to read -- Neither the teacher, nor two... but as is it makes no sense.

If the enemy is just a populist then you will find yourself unelectable.

Your discussion leaves out one important question:

Did they at least use a condom?

The super claimed she didn't know if it was protected or unprotected- O'Reilly's reporter asked that question. I have doubts as to whether or not 12 year olds have condoms or would even have any idea how to use them.

Yeah, surveys here in Germany backed that. Even though we have sex education in biology classes in sixth grade, I even had sex ed in second grade where we got to know the difference between male and female and what is a condom, most of the children didn't care at all about contraception.
They even thought AIDS was no problem since it is curable. I don't know who told them that, but it's scary as well.

I am really apalled at this.

I don´t think there´s much we can do. Sex is everywhere and the way society is going we really are losing the respect for this very intimate act. I´ve heard of public sexual acts of children so young.

I don´t know what´s to be done with children as a parent except try to give them some values and hope that they follow them. I really hope to have children one day and these things just scare the hell out of me because I know how children are. When you keep something as forbidden you create an appeal of sorts because it´s something that is unattainable and yet if you make it a casual thing they just might take as exactly that.

I think the difficult part is creating a balance between being honest with your child and trying to teach some values to them.

I am really shocked and appalled about this story. I can´t imagine this happening ten years ago and I don´t even want to think about what kids will be doing ten years from now. :tsk:

With this kind of behaviour going on who do we blame? Do we blame our selves and our lust for sex everywhere in TV, Music, games, books, advertising? Or is it just a natural urge to do these kind of things?

How about shitty parents? Or a failing education system?

Honestly music, movies, the arts have always been a blaming point, and honestly it's a cop out.

Personally, I think that many kids aren't socialized to respect their elders and themselves. It's about more than just sex education and whether/when you've had it or not. It seems like kids are losing respect for parents and teachers as not only authority figures, but experienced adults who's advice and rules they SHOULD actually listen to. Kids also aren't being taught how to set their own boundaries and respect themselves enough not to do things like have sex because their boyfriend will leave them if they don't or because all their buddies say it's cool.

I have to agree with that. Not true about all parents of course, but in my observation so many kids are overindulged and underdisciplined. So when they go to school, they expect things to be like they are at home-and to be treated accordingly. The parents are socializing them that way, and so are other elements of society. But the buck stops with parents.

Oh I totally agree about shitty parents and a crappy educational system. But come on the media want's to help dumb down our children to the point were fucking anywhere anytime and flaunting it on TV is cool!

Well, maybe if parents would grow some balls and tell their kids to do some homework or play outside instead of 11 year old girls reading Cosmo and pre-teen boys watching the porn channels upstairs, the media wouldn't really factor in. I did not by any means live a sheltered childhood, but I never even had access to the types of media that would make me, a 10-11 year old 6th grader, feel pressured enough into having sex at that age. It wasn't so much that my parents sat me down and said "you are not allowed to have sex...", but my entirely life I was socialized to respect the fact that I was in control of myself and my choices. I see girls these days who are like empty vessels with zero self-respect and it's sad. 10 year olds should be building forts outside and having bike races, not knocking each other up.

I think parents, schools and the media should be held responsible for what their child does. Schools, should force students to wear uniforms, so gang affiliations or what ever goes down. No cell phones allowed during class time. If they do not turn in home work on time, there should be some sort of punishment. The school system needs to travel to other countries, especially poorer countries where students value education. Parents should be told that if their childs behaviour does not improve, that there records will be affected limiting what universitys students can attend, parents should take a class on better parenting etc... As far as the media, let the law handle that.

The media is dictated by what the public wants. If Paris Hilton didn't sell magazines, then Paris Hilton wouldn't be on the cover. Media doesn't dictate society's behaviour, it reflects it more than anything.

Blaming it, is a cop out!!!

Would you be against making schools Military Charter schools? It would teach disiple and teach, math, english, science,etc...

I don't understand what this has to do with the topic but they let pupils use mobiles, get away with not handing in homework and nothing is put on record about bad behaviour for a university to see over there?

Maybe it varies greatly, but the school system I grew up in enforced dress codes, did not allow cell phones or pagers in the building, and if you didn't turn in homework you didn't get any credit for it.

As for the media, we in this country value a little thing called freedom of speech/expression. We also say kids are minors until they are 18, so their parents can control their behavior without the government having to tell everyone what they can and cannot read.

Absolutely not, I have no clue where he's getting that from.

Because, lack of disipline from parents being shitty parents and schools being a joke, these two kids decided to bang in class. We need to be strict.
