Perhaps it's because I do feel like I'm a solo voice in here that my posts come off more sweeping than intended.

That also doesn't make me incorrect.

I think that's because for a very long time, you were. Besides, Melon, as you mentioned, whose presence is missed. I still remember your patience in explaining gay perspectives for the umpteenth time, when I would have been ready for a barroom brawl to settle things, in your position. You've earned a certain cachet, for that.

It's been a very long time since I've posted in these parts. I've been lurking in this thread for weeks now, though, and as an outsider who only has time to digest the POTUS election news in soundbytes, this thread has been great, and mostly quite civil. I've enjoyed and have become more informed by reading all your views - thanks.

ETA - also miss Yolland. Does she post anymore?

More and more I get the sense that this is where we're heading.

Obama won the 2012 election by four points, so for Clinton to lose by seven that would require an eleven point shift. That's pretty massive, especially since the white vote is dropping by about 2.5% of the electorate every Presidential cycle and Republicans are losing an estimated 2.5 million voter swing every cycle due to deaths and younger voters identifying with Democrats more than ever...I'm open to the possibility of a Republican victory at least being probable, but not one by that margin unless Clinton is found to have clearly committed illegal acts by the time the election rolls around.

While I do think Sanders does a better job at energizing far leftists and independents that wouldn't normally vote, and therefore is the stronger candidate, I think Clinton's weaknesses in these head-to-head GOP matchups are mostly due to distrust of her among the general public...but when November rolls around, they're going to hold their nose if she's the nominee and get in line.

An acquaintance of mine who lives in NH (and is a Bernie supporter) posted this pic on Facebook today:

Old people have a reason for being terrified of socialists, they know history.

How cute, iron horse. :cute:

Anyway, that would have much more to do with decades long relentless propaganda - and you know, a little thing called McCarthyism.

I sort of loved watching Chirstie shitting on Rubio over his planned speech.

Ironically, I'm pretty sure that speech by Christie was planned.

Rubio got schlonged by Christie multiple times right out of the gate

I'm loving it. New Hampshire obviously has been much stronger for the three governors, but they're actually also coming out of this debate as being the three victors.

sure I'm scared of socialists as Oppenheimer was a socialist and Dirac was very close to all the Soviet scientists.

it sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?

Yeah, a bit, I'm not quite sure what you're trying to get at though.

How do you feel about Einstein?

well whatever i said might sound nonsensical but might have made sense in 50s as these people know lots about nuclear bomb/nuclear energy and afraid that Soviet's gonna get new technologies from these people. but it's also true that this type of fear was also somewhat nonsensical even in the past as these people weren't into dictatorship and more about education system that Soviet was about to establish (never happened as they thought physics principles are against communist agenda. whatever that means).

don't know about politics of Einstein. did he even state his political ideas beyond any Jewish related issues?

He was a socialist and wrote essays about it. I believe he was monitored by the CIA as well.

Apologies for my getting off topic here.

I'm really hoping someone other than Mrs. Clinton, Bernie, Trump!, Cruz, or Rubio emerges after NH :grumpy:

I would honestly be really happy to see Christie or Kasich gain over Rubio, but it's probably too late for something like that to happen.

And young people have traveled and studied abroad in socialist democratic countries like Norway and Denmark and even Germany and France and they admire how these countries are able to give their citizens high quality universal health care, freedom from gun violence, free university education, quality universal day care, and an overall high quality of life.

Rubio was brutal last night. Seriously, this is the best hope? He's like one of those old fashioned dolls where you'd pull a string and they'd say the same phrase over and over again.
