Since this storm is happening and I'm a nervous wreck, I'm just going to say it. I think Romney 's going to win. I'm just glad I won't have to rely on him for any help.

I intend to vote no matter what. Unless we get a freaking blizzard next and I can't walk the few miles to my polling place. I really wish I had done an absentee ballot.

If Romney wins, the best case scenario would be if the Democrats get Congress.

Any chance of that happening?

Stay safe, MrsS I think I have more of a right to be nervous because I'm not too far from an evacuation zone and if the reports are to be believed, we're in for a lot of shit.

So I've been out of the loop this weekend, but why would the hurricane result in a Romney win?

Very good article from Nate Silver:

Nothing to do with the storm, just a feeling I have that I'm expressing due to impending doom.

Besides that, once again, with the GOP having people in power who are as ignorant as they are on women's health issues, this can pose its own dangers for people should they get their way on any legislation related to the topic. It's not terrorism, no, but it's still pretty frightening for a woman.
rape IS one (or group)-to-one terrorism. period. It is about control, domination, violence etc.

The comment was totally disgusting and abhorent.

I hope you realize that many women in this country are worried and even fearful of what will happen if Romney wins and/or the GOP takes over Congress. We are nervous over what will happen to our reproductive rights, which is in the hands of many politicians who clearly are ignorant not only of our bodies, but what we go through each and every day.

Exactly. Mourdock is campaigning for office and has many supporters - which is disturbing.

And it should be frightening to a man, too. Would you want your mother, sister, wife, girlfriend, daughter to be forced to carry a baby to term despite being raped or having her health on the line?
Very well said, Pearl.

great link, pearl!

my only suggestion would have been on her aerticle

women are people, too.

(And NOT as they are still perceived to be by too many men as their own personal brood mare as well as dumb, home and kitchen bound)

I really, REALLY hope that storm doesn't mess with the election much, if at all *Rubs temples, sighs*.

Hope everyone in its path stays safe.

No, but I think what he's getting at is that instead of actually addressing how horrible what Mourdock said was, we had to get into a discussion over whether or not they're on the same level of offensiveness. Which, again, wasn't the main point I was trying to make-no doubt they're on different levels, but the fact remains that they are both pretty horrific things to think/say/do. No politician who wants to run any part of the population should be stating such ignorant views aloud.

Fully agreed. I was referring more to politicians' lawmaking policy there, but even then...yeah. It's pretty disturbing.

But heck, if we are going to go with actions of equal measure, okay, fine, then why aren't the GOP and its supporters out publicly condeming the people who bomb abortion clinics and harass women who go there? Where was the GOP when Dr. Tiller was murdered a few years ago? Why aren't they actively working to pass laws to do more to stop those people? I would definitely consider THOSE things acts of domestic terrorism, after all.

I would also add that if I were a conservative, I would urge the Mourdocks and Akins and whatnot of the world to shut up about these issues because they have nothing to do with rebuilding our economy. You know, the thing the Republicans keep saying they'll fix because Obama's supposedly done such a horrible job of it? If someone can explain to me how their constant obsessive comments on and attempts to change the laws in regards to whether or not women should be allowed to have an abortion in cases of rape tie into actually fixing the economy, I'd really love to hear it!

Pearl, well said on your posts, too.

Because for those people, killing abortion doctors and harassing women who go to the clinics is a form of justice to them. They got even with those they consider to be murderers. Eye for an eye, so to speak.

Thanks, Moonlit and dazzling for your kind words

That's a New York Times thing, not a Nate Silver thing. They title everyone. A story about fucking Snooki would refer to her as Ms. Polizzi.
