Santa Officially Flies Backwards!

O.K., I'm looking at Norad's Santa Tracking Device and it seems to me that Santa is flying backwards. As I write this, Santa is flying over the east coast of North America. Yay! That's where I live! Can't wait for my present! Then he's off across the Atlantic.

But wait!

Given the time changes around the world, shouldn't Santa be starting somewhere in New Zealand and then fly towards Hawaii? Would his "one night" be a lot longer that way?

Of course, one has to ignore the whole flying reindeer, delivering toys to some billion children, landing on rooftops, etc. - focusing only on the time changes here.

Or am I a total dumbass? Maybe Santa has already done exactly what I wrote above? Good - because in movies Santa is always going from North America to Europe. Makes no sense.
