i love the word carpet. it's mayhaps the only compound word where the two words don't define the word itself. think about it: car + pet = carpet. carpet is neither a car nor a pet.

i also like the word thrice. it's quicker than saying three times. plus using that word and whilst make me sound smarter. also, i like words that sound like nonsense. stuff like tomfoolery and hootenany that you guys already said.

i'm also a fan of the word goober. i call a lot of people goober. in fact, i wrote my husband's easter card as "to: goober" cuz it's one of my many pet names for him. i call him goober, he calls me boober.
