Just booked my plane ticket.
Leaving next week.

:hyper:

This is so exciting!!
And totally not what I had in mind back in January, when I thought I'd be going home (the Netherlands) during the summer this year.
Two weeks ago, I still didn't have anything planned.
And then this opportunity came along.
Just couldn't pass it up.

Summer vacation can't start fast enough now.
6 more lessons to give!

Alright, back to writing report cards.

Going to China? WOW? That's sounds fascinating. What made you choose China (instead of home). Hope you have a great time. How long will you be gone?

My explanation will make it sound a lot less fascinating.
But that's OK.

My husband has a business trip to China.
During the school year with my work schedule and no substitutes to replace me, there's no way I can accompany him on his trips.
And at first it looked like I wouldn't be able to make this trip either.
But lucky for me, it got pushed back a week.
Almost perfect timing as summer vacation starts in a few days.
We won't be traveling to or from China together.
Because he has a meeting and is giving a talk/presentation in China on Monday.
Which is the same day that I'll be given my last lesson of this schoolyear.
I'm flying out the day after that on Tuesday (June 21st), will be there for a little less than 2 weeks and come back on July 3rd.

:applaud: Miri, that's great! I hope you have a great time, take LOTS of pictures and come back soon to share your trip experiences with all of us

I hope I'll have a GREAT time too.
I am excited!
But a little scared as well.
Never travelled that way before.

I have no clue yet where we're staying or what we'll be able to do and see.
That freaks me out the most, because normally I know these things way in advance.

I'm planning on taking LOTS of pictures and will share them and my experiences with you as soon as I get back.

 Redrocksu2, JanuaryStar, ThoraSEB!
Don't be jealous.

The thing I least look forward to is the flight to get there.

From San Francisco to LA (almost 4 hours of waiting), from LA to Tokyo (2 hours of waiting), from Tokyo to Shanghai.

:hmm:....lots of flying....
If you lived close to me, I would lend you my Noise Cancellation Headsets for the flight....

What?!
You're not coming to give them to me personally, while I'm waiting at LAX for 4 hours!
I so expected you to.

I actually have a Noise Cancellation Headphone myself.

Is 2 stops to China the shortest route from there? It seems like there should be a single stop flight from there.

I think there might even be direct flights.
I have a single stop flight on the way back.
Just 2 hours in Tokyo then.

But this going to China thing happened at the last minute.
And it's peak travel season.
Summer vacation just started here.
So a lot of flights are completely booked.
This was the best cheapest flight I could find.
Compared to the prices I'm used to when I fly to Europe, it's still a DAMN expensive one.
Good thing, the hotel is paid for.

In a couple of hours I'm heading out.
I'm nervous already.
The butterflies in the stomach feeling.
I always get that before I travel.

Anybody else have experience that too?

yep, I have those too, anytime we go somewhere (which is rare).

Have a great trip, safe flight, lots of fun, and take lots of pics. :camera:

Those are great photos Miringeltje. I hope to be able to visit there (and Japan) someday.
