Got it at the end of May as a graduation present... worked fine for a few weeks but began developing a problem where it would come up with a message announcing that the computer needed to restart. The problem got continually worse, eventually to the point where it would do it sometimes three times within 15 minutes. I tried reinstalling Mac OS X (without erasing everything) but that didn't work. Took it into the Apple store Friday, they shipped it out to be fixed, got it back yesterday and...it still has the same problem. So I erased everything and reinstalled Mac OS X...and it still has the problem.

Apple should give me a new computer imo

thoughts?

is it a kernel panic? mine would do that shit. they ended up giving me a new one after keeping mine forever. i lost all my data, including my research. i can't believe i was able to graduate on time :sigh:

but yeah, call mac and tell them you're gonna get a dell. that'll encourage them :)

you're calling now? take a nap. but wake up after 1 hour bc they will play a u2 song. I got "the hands that bored america", and then i went back to sleep. I think they picked up the phone somewhere around dinner time

and yes, demand a new one because no matter how many times they get you to reboot the system it will still fuck shit up.

apparently there were macbook pros that were made during a certain date that had this problem, and we all got new ones. looks like you're experiencing the same stuff.

Yeah, well, it actually only took about 8 minutes to get someone on the line. He did have me reboot it about eleventy billion times "hold this key...hold that key...hold these keys...hold every key ever..." admittingly so far it hasn't kernel panicked now but airport keeps messing up, like it'll say it has 4 bars yet nothing works or loads, so I'm not even uisng the laptop right now

:sigh:

yeah, mine did the same. they just gotta give you a new one. unfortunately, i don't think you can just take it to the store and switch. you gotta get a case number and all that fun. try calling the store you got it from though, see what they say.

im sorry, when they work they are really great computers. i know you just got it and you want to be able to use it

i'm consdering buying a MacBookPro very soon.

should i reconsider? can anyone out there give me Mac advice?

I got a pro. to be honest, i wish i had went with the macbook instead. i'm not as computer savvy as i used to be, so i'm really not using it to the fullest potential. i used to make graphics and such.

but...then again...you do films, right? pro might be the way to go! how about you buy the macbook and we'll trade. as a bonus i'll let you keep all of my bono pics :sexywink:

Yeah, I mean, it worked fine the first few weeks I had it and I loved it. I got a case number from the call and he said to call back if it kernel panciked...it hasn't done that yet but I also haven't been using it because of the internet issue. Should I call about that? I went ahead and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow at the apple store anyway.

Well, I called again (actually it kernel panicked again as soon as I got on it lol)... the lady I talked with consulted a specialist and apparently they are aware of the problem and have been working on some sort of software update, but for now I should get an ethernet cable and connect directly to the internet, and she has no clue when the software update will be available (and the article which she got it from is top-secret or some shit and she can't send it to me)? I'm pissed. The DSL router is on the third floor in my dad's room and my room is on the second floor, so we'd have to get some giant-ass cable and run it across the ground and it would be all, in the way, and like she said they're not expensive but really, should I have to spend any money on something that's not my fault at all?

I think I'm still gonna go in to the apple store tomorrow and...complain or something, I dunno. One of the main reasons I wanted a Mac was to not have to deal with bullshit problems like this.

that is a load of crap. i'm totally not kidding mine did the SAME shit! i was like "nuh-uh. i didn't get my macbook pro so i can PAY for friggin internet! i'm gonna steal from my neighbors because i want to, damn it!"

it is lame. the airport card sucks because there is something wrong with that part of the logic board. tell them to replace it NOW.

i hope the store takes care of you. i know apple has to receive your machine and confirm it sucks themselves before you can get another one. hopefully they won't give you hell. once you get one that works you'll love it, i promise.

:lmao: it's so true! well we have a wireless router here but at my mom's I just steal the nieghbor's...

yeah I think tomorrow I will simply tell them about the phone calls and explain that it is simply not feasible for me to connect directly with an ethernet cable and I don't think I should have to buy something for my computer when the issue is not my fault at all.

and then i'll be like UNNNNGHHHH YEAH CMON FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME

(and I'm sure I'll love it once it actually works, I loved it before it started screwing up...thanks for your support in this, nice to know someone who went through the same stupid issues)

wellll I took it in again. they informed me that they had already replaced like half the insides so there was no reason for it to be screwing up still (clearly it is haunted. BORN AS GHOSTS UNNGHHH). They're sending it for repairs...again... if this doesn't work I'm demanding my money back for a Dell

oh yea i forgot to update this thread...got the macbook back Friday and they hadn't replaced anything; just gave me a message that said "could not duplicate issue." so we took it to the apple store for the third time and the guy we talked to was actually helpful. He said the issue was with my 2WIRE router. Apparently they don't sync well with Macs, or some Macs, but that an update should be available soon, and in the mean time if I kept my computer plugged in it should fix the problem. No idea why he was the only guy who seemed to know what was going on...could be because he said you-too was his favourite band  sucks that i couldn't just get a new computer to fix the problem (he said we could work that out but ultimately I'd likely end up with the same issues even with a new comp), but I've taken his advice and so far it has worked fine.

 no i'd say he's a little old for me...not really my type... it was funny though cuz he was like saying something to my friend when we were first there, something like "is there some sort of atmosphere problem, so many good looking people coming in with the same problem" i have no clue what he was talking about, it was weird  but my friend is male... maybe he meant others had come in with the same problem...or maybe he just meant us...either way it was kinda weird

AB-Did you install the OS X 10.4.10 update? It's a known issue that the update causes kernal panics when the Airport is being used. That's the main reason I haven't upgraded it yet...and, for future reference, after 3 times of having the computer worked on, you can demand a replacement from Apple, and they will usually oblige because it's considered a lemon. Although, if it's the OS X update, I don't know if they would...

I just installed a new update a couple days ago which seems to have fixed the problem...it hasnt KPed since.

but wow so you think it was that initial update which caused the problem? That would make sense because it worked fine the first few weeks I had it. Huh. if only i would have known!
