hydroplaning is just when your tread loses contact with the surface of the road (due to rain, or icy conditions)... it can cause a spin or skidding.

We call that aqua planing.


It is not technically the same as skidding, fishtailing or any other though, as unless you have ABS with 4WD is it hard to correct and the whole car spins out.

hydroplaning you have virtually no control... fishtailing is the result of overadjustment. In that instance there is a degree of control.
