thank you all for your nice words, pm's, and s. it means a lot. i'm still pretty shocked about it but i feel it's definitely for the best. i wanted to go a different route in my life and this is probably the only way i was going to get started on it sooner rather than later. they're paying me through november and my boss is actually going to help me find a new job, which is more than i expected. he has great connections which should help. i do feel badly because i know my company is not doing well and if they could have avoided this, they would have. my boss actually got choked up when he told me so i know there was nothing i could have done. i just wish the job market was a little better so it would be a little easier - i'm sure lots of people wish that. 
i could be in a much worse situation so i have nothing to complain about really. i'm going to work on my resume this weekend. i'm actually going to go home (to my parents) tomorrow through monday. it was something i planned earlier but now i am really looking forward to it. i just need to relax.
anyway, thanks again. you all kick ass.

and i am very sorry for the lack of numbering in this thread. i am usually quite good with the numbers. and i'm also sorry for starting the thread out with

Your boss sounds cool and like he really didnt want to lay you off. I know how it is.. we work with software companies and all of them have been laying people off. It sucks out there.
