Now I see why they dropped DYFL so fast in the tour, damn that sucked.

It was the first night though, I wish they would've given it a chance like Miami.

Almost 10 years on, and PopMart does look a lot better with age.

The reason everyone called it FlopMart at the time was just b/c Zoo TV had set the bar SOOOO high, and the band was naive enough to go around telling everyone "the goal is to be better than Zoo TV - we want to top it" beforehand, which was an impossible task. They never should have set it up as a competition, b/c it was unwinnable from the start.

But in its own right, it was a great, great tour.

Do you feel loved was amazing , bono wasnt active enough though.

yes haha...must be a little Zoo TV throwback...remember HMTMKMKM was meant as a Zoo TV track but came out too late

HMTMKMKM would of been a highlight of ZOO , it was meant for ZOO :(

I think the lyrical content and song itself fits more with Pop then any Zoo-era work.

If anything it serves as a bridge between the Achtung work (The Fly, Until the End of the World) to Pop (Gone, Last Night on Earth)

play this song before Gone, and read the lyrics, it sounds amazing.

I understand that, but it wasn't that it was rough or misrehearsed it was just that the minimal approach was missing the groove of the studio version, and that's what made the song.

What killed it for me was that Adam's bassline is the best part of the song, and I could barely hear him at all during that performance.

Though my brain did explode a little when Bono started singing Get Into The Groove. Pity he stopped

I was there the first night and it killed the mood. What might sound great as a single song, really stunk in the middle of U2's set. The groove wasn't there and Bono's vocal in that song just wasn't powerful enough to keep the audience interested. It was basically a drab song live.

Miami really didn't fare much better as it was dropped during the third leg.

listening to the boots, Tel Aviv in particular, the audio is superb, Miami is the perfect transition between parts of the show.

Miami -> Bullet the Blue Sky had to be done to set the mood for Please and Streets. The way those two songs meshed together was among U2's best song transitions not involving Streets.

Thematically it works too, but I'm too lazy to explain.

I like the studio version...but live I could never get into it...still can't.

I saw them perform it live 3 times...and I still didn't get it. But hey that's just me I never thought Pop was a 'great' album, so I'm a bit biased here.

However if I had to pick a song I loved live from Popmart it'd be "Please"...which I think is one of the top 10 songs U2 have ever recorded. Live I loved that song...and throwing SBS into the end was brilliant...as it really was the 90's version of SBS.

I agree with every word of this post. The first live version of Miami I ever heard was from the Tel Aviv boot. I thought the transition from Miami through to Streets was perfect. I always thought that Popmart shows dropped off after Mofo and with the exceptions of LNOE and Gone didn't pick up until Miami or Bullet, after Miami was dropped.

Mofo from Mtv is one of their best tv performence ever.

Is it just me who thinks that the line "Move me a mountain" in the live versions of Mofo reminds of another song? :)

Could it be 'Move any mountain' by The Shamen?

There are many things we disagree on and debate in these forums. This is not one of them. MTV Mofo is not just one of their best tv performances, but one of the best I've ever seen.
