Woof I just read all 38 pages of this thread while "decompressing" after a 10 hour workday. It's funny to see a lot of the reactions change over the course of the day.

I really like the song, FWIW. I was initially thrown off by the tempo because I thought it would be a little faster and snappier, but the "plodding" a lot of people are whining about actually gives it a really nice groove that bounces pretty playfully.

Like I said in another thread, though, this had better not be the fucking opening track on the album.

Agreed. Sci Fi reminded me of that super slow mix of SYCMIOYO.

Yes, the tinkering stuff is quite funny, love it or hate it.

Also, not that I am an expert, but agree on the not sounding overcooked.
 
The single is catchy but certainly disjointed. They eliminated some of the best, unique sounds that are in the Kygo version as well. Not terrible at all, it is enjoyable, but doesn't live up to its potential. And that sucks, because it had great potential.

Yep, think this is a pretty good assessment and is about where I'm at.

I kind of wish I hadn't heard the Kygo mix, but at the same time there is some stuff from that I really wish were in the final version... primarily the warmth of the choruses and the "bounce" and build up to the chorus.
 
I'm a bit late to the party here. Where did the Sci-fi mix come from?
 
Let me ask everyone this. If they're about to play it live on Fallon -- why don't they let that be the world premiere than release the single Friday?

Even so -- 8am East Coat time in America is a bad time because our minds aren't awake enough to process new music. We're all zombies in America. I guess it was for Ireland to get first play on radio right?

I think the reason reactions changed is most of us first heard this as Suitcase put in with shit in our eyes and hot dogs in our ears.

I can't wait until the next track is released at 3:33am and you can only listen to it if you get a secret passcode.
 
Also the lyric video I thought was one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. Simple, but perfect for the song.

I see on Kygos facebook page there is a recent post saying new music coming soon. Any chance it will be the best thing remix?

With the exception of the "happened to boy " part the lyrics are pretty good for Bono. And from what you posted definitely better than the earlier version.

Invisible was very underwhelming for me. Too blah, standard U2. It's grown in me a bit. But liking this one more from the start.
 
I like the verses a lot but they are very reminiscent of something else. Some have said EBTTRT but I'm thinking of something else by someone else. An old pop song or something. It'll come to me.

Nevertheless it's U2 doing pure pop pretty well. Feels a lot more genuine and natural to me than even the Motivational Poster element of Beautiful Day. That's what strikes me about Little Things too. It seems pretty authentic. Either that or I'm finally old enough to appreciate this kind of U2 in their latter phase.

The chorus feels a bit glued on to the verse though. It's a decent chorus but isn't particularly novel or remarkable. It prevents the song from being something much more impressive. As is, is nothing to get too excited about but the bar is lower now than it used to be. So whatever.

Musically, I like the sounds and production value. Larry and Adam thankfully sound like they have a pulse and are more than painting by numbers... Edge isn't too generic and it's always good to hear his voice. The bridge is good, I think. Amazing Bono didn't find a way to breathe or moan throughout it.

And Bono's vox sounds good enough. Lyrically, good but the "a boy" is grating...as Bono can't seem to go an album (or song?) without at least one cringe moment.

I think the lyrics are just fine, with some parts I really enjoy. The bridge with Edge's perspective change is really cool.
 
Gar not one radio station that I know of here in Vancouver has seemed to play this song. Only one station the other day payed the blackout when it was released and for the best thing, nada, zero, zilch. I would have thought that atleast it would get a spin somewhere once or twice. Vancouver radio you disappoint me!
 
Have to laugh at Edge referring to this as "ballsy" lol

But yeah, sounds like that instagram post was legit and they really did change it up last minute. Wild. Edge says the earlier version was more "mellow"
 
If anyone ripped the sci fi mix before it was taken down a pm would be greatly appreciated. I hate the arrangement of the song but would love to hear another version of it because I think it's well written.
