"Where do I start?" Start with your top 10. Then build gradually from there.

Red Ships of Scalla-Festa,

"he included salome outtakes."

I did?

KhanadaRhodes,

"if you add up all their songs from every album and ep, it's 198, i believe."

Really? That would mean I'm missing 15 songs? I've got everything from the albums, EPs and singles, I think.

If anyone knows any songs that I missed, please list them here.

I think Race Against Time should have been two or maybe three spots higher.

Shame shame

Nevermind, it appears twice.

You're back in the good books

...and sadly, I haven't listened to all 183 U2 songs. I'm working on it though.

cujo,

"I think Race Against Time should have been two or maybe three spots higher."

"Shame shame"

"Nevermind, it appears twice."

"You're back in the good books"

Thanks for pointing that out. If you see any other errors or songs that are not listed, please tell me. Ummm, the top 182 U2 songs ranked in order. I would probably keep it at #145 though.

Nice list Speedracer. You need Passengers and the 1978/1979 demo songs and "Race Against Time".

Hmmm ...

Out of 183 songs, I wonder how many have guitar solos? Perhaps a dozen? Maybe even less.

Cheers,

By "guitar solo" I'll assume that you mean a guitar lick that (1) is not accompanied by another melodic part, (2) happens during the middle of a song and (3) is not simply a reprise of an opening guitar lick.

Off the top of my head...(I'm only including studio versions; many live versions have an improvised instrumental break in them)

Pride
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
In God's Country
All I Want Is You
Even Better Than The Real Thing
Until The End Of The World
The Fly
Mysterious Ways
Beautiful Day
Walk On
Kite
When I Look At The World (yes, that really is a guitar playing in the break, not a synthesizer)

I might be missing some from Boy and October because I haven't listened to those albums much lately.

Apologies for this being a bit off topic, but... where do you hear the 78/79 demo songs? I've looked all over the internet...

I've got a couple of bootlegs of the 78/79 demos. I found one in a shop at University a few years back. Then a friend from Italy sent me a more extensive one she had found in a shop where she lives in the bootleg section. Also, an early U2 concert from January 1980 nearly a year before Boy was released, had a lot of the old 70s U2 songs.

I say your best bet is to go to some U2 websites that specialize in concert bootlegs. One of them is bound to have the 78/79 demo's. It would probably be something you would have to trade for or purchase though. I'm not sure how many are MP3s that you can listen to just though the internet.

I don't hear any guitar solo on Beautiful Day or All I Want Is You. I think Bullet The Blue Sky has a guitar solo. And even the few guitar solos Edge has --- he only has very few repetetive notes (Pride) or very few bars (Kite). But Walk On has a nifty guitar-hero like solo, not to mention the live versions of One Tree Hill (Dublin `89), Bullet The Blue Sky (just about every tour).

Um, you've never heard a guitar solo in AIWIY? Probably the longest one Edge ever played, 2 minutes or so, also one of the best guitar solos ever.

And if Kite's solo is to short to be called a solo, how long should he play until it is considered a solo?

Between the second and third verses there's an acoustic guitar strumming (maybe not what people mean by "guitar solo") and a quick snippet of electric guitar.

Between the second chorus and the bridge (before "see the world in green and blue") there's a really high-pitched track. That's a guitar being pushed up 2 octaves by a guitar processor.
