What Would Your Dream U2 Album Be?

This thread is probably going to give some of you migraines. I'm just starting to get one right now. But I think it will be a really great way to pass the time until the new album hits, and should also provide some great conversation fodder.

If you had to create the 'perfect' U2 album, using all of the tracks from their studio albums (and the Best Ofs, just in case you want to use the promotional singles) to form one monster 12-track U2 LP, which tracks would you use, and in what order would you place the songs?

All the better if you explain your choices and why you put them in the order that you did!

Good luck, everyone! I'll be posting my own answer in a bit. I've just got to think about it for a while. :hmm:

-Mike

P.S. - Just to clarify: you may only choose songs from their studio albums and from the two Best Ofs (A sides). That means no B-side tracks, no live tracks, and no tracks that didn't appear on studio albums ('Night and Day', for instance). Only studio cuts and 'The Sweetest Thing' and 'Electrical Storm'. No - you may not choose 'The Hands That Built America', as it was made specifically for a movie.

Gee that was hard...

Apologies to:

Pride, An Cat DUbh/INto the Heart, 11 Oclock tick tock, with or without you, indian summer sky, a sort of homecoming, running to stand still, angel of harlem, one, even better than the real thing, some days are better than others, please, walk on

My reasoning for order is based on how I would think it would flow best.....Zoo Station and Is That All? both deserve their positions as respective first and last songs on the album because they suit those positions in context of the mood of the song and suitability as album openers and closers.....

Wanted to open the album with a bang hence Zoo station and the fly as 1 and 2, heartland softened the mood down immediately afterwards.

Just thought where the streets have no name might sound good immediately after the end of heartland and beautiful day would flow on nicely,

Discotheque at 6 was to change from the melodic mood of the past 3 songs into something with a little more oomph......New Years Day's explosive opening i thought would sound good after discotheque....same goes for the ultimate u2 song, gloria, my decision was all about a desirable flow.

One Tree Hill serves as a nice soothing intro to some of the most exciting u2 songs ultraviolet, the unforgettable fire and the thought provoking passion of is that all?

I wish 12 tracks wasn't all coz there were too many deserving exclusions ......anyhoo there we go...my brains buggured now

In order to avoid appearing like a 'Greatest Hits' album, naturally there would need to be a couple obscure songs to balance out the heavy hitters.

1. One
2. Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car
3. Sunday Bloody Sunday
4. Pride
5. Mofo
6. Hawkmoon 269
7. Walk On
8. Bullet the Blue Sky
9. Acrobat
10. Bad
11. '40'
12. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

Ugh! This is hard because I tend to get sick of the songs that have been singles so I favor ones that haven't been, but I'll give it a go....

1. Gone
2. Walk On
3. Kite
4. Seconds
5. Unforgettable Fire (IF Edge sees this.... It would be cool to hear this on the tour!!!!!!!!) Please
6. Pride
7. One
8. Stay
9. Bullet the Blue Sky
10. Exit
11. Love is Blindness
12. Stuck in a Moment.

In a sense, no. I love the nineties stuff and I feel it was some of the best music ever made (I nearly put Gone or Wake Up Dead Man in instead of God Part II). However, I simply feel eighties U2 was even better.

This is WAY too hard. When I finished my first attempt I had nothing from Joshua Tree. After ditching Another Time Another Place, I realised I still don't have Gloria, Bad, Blindness, WOWY.....
