Heck, "Miss Sarajevo" is also very VU'ish. It's a rewrite of "Femme Fatale".

Never heard the REM version, but "Miss Sarajevo" has a very similiar guitar chord progression that creates a very similiar 'woman on display' melancholy and slightly abstract portaiture kind of feel as the VU version.
