Because the song is just so sweet and you can't get anywhere near it without protection, for fear of diabetes.

"You gotta love living, baby, 'cause dyin's a pain in the ass."-- Frank Sinatra

Adam: Look guys, I got a Springfield spoon for my spoon collection.
Edge: Oh boy, here we go...
Bono: Wow, how many is that now Adam?
Adam: Nine. If I didn't have my spoons, I'd go insane.
Bono: Can I see it?
*adam gives bono the spoon, bono throws it away*
Adam: My spoon!

it's irony.

irony at it's best.

you can stuff your sorries in a sack mister

I thought it was to do with the fact that the proceeds went to a charity, and the gas mask had something to do with the charity, but now I can't remember

This pic was taken during "War"-era, so naturally, the pic is supposed to reflect and symbolize war.
I have no idea why they put it on the sweetest thing single-sleeve tho.

Can anyone tell me what the deal with that picture is? Looks like the kid from War (Peter Rowan?) just wearing a gas mask. The first time I saw it, kinda freaked me out. Does it have anything to do with the song? It all seems so serious when the song is anything but.

Well at least the Chernobyl one makes sense. That thing still kinda scares me.

I would say art, plain and simple.

When I saw the cover for it back when it was originally released it made me nostalgic for old U2, when back then I was just getting over the whole POP fiasco.
