let's discuss 'stay'

stay is one of my favourite U2 songs lately

i prefer the studio version than the acoustic live version

anyone else has any thoughts on this?

I prefer the acoustic version they did during the Zooropa tour period. Great stuff.

The Elevation version was also spectacular.

Studio is also great.

All of the versions are quite different, yet wonderful.

I've always enjoyed the Elevation, Toronto version. The delicate arrangment complements the subject matter so well.

I think the best overall band version was from the Dublin '93 show (aka, the Zooeuropa boot). I love how Bono sings "up" (if you know what I mean) instead of the usual "down" during the "oh ohs" near the end. Brilliant.

there's something about the guitar effects in the studio version that grab me more than the acoustic versions

you're right though, it's such a great song that it sounds good in nearly any arrangement

have you heard the version with the strings by Craig Armstrong? lovely stuff.
