We all know that the band take care and attention and employ significant relevance in choosing album names (er HTDAAB :scratch: ) but given the chance, what do YOU think would be a better title for an album?

Some bootleg names are great - so excuse me if some have stuck in my subconscious.

Innocence (BOY)
Irish Eyes (October)
War (well, pretty good damn title IMO) (WAR)
How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb ;) (The Unforgettable Fire)
Desert Skies (The Joshua Tree)
America (Rattle and Hum)
Zoo Station (Achtung Baby)
Nuclear Landscapes (Zooropa)
Mother (POP)
Mid-Life Crisis ;) (ATYCLB)
Fourteen (HTDAAB)

I don't think October has a particularly Irish theme to it, barring the uileann pipes in Tomorrow. I like the rest of your titles though. Perhaps 'Glasnost' for Zooropa? Rattle and Hum - yes it's definitely the most American of the albums in terms of the influence of US music.

Desert Skies is a nice one! :up:

:hmm: I would probably leave Boy - Pop as it is... perfect!

As for the 2 clunky titles...

ATYCLB - Elevate or Elevation

HTDAAB - Solar

:shrug:

I agree that October doesn't have much of an Irish feel.

I think Boy is less literal and encompasses the innocent theme much better.

And 'mother' and 'fourteen' doesn't really work at all.

Come to think of it, Last Night On Earth would have been a great title for Pop. Or even... Space Junk.... or... Wake Up Dead Man.

:hmm:

Lets see:

Boy...Phil
October...Leroy
War....Marvin
UF...Charlie
Joshua Tree...Kevin
Rattle and Hum...Stewart
Achtung baby...Ralph
Zooropa...Albert
Pop...Jonathan
ATYCLB...Freddy
HTDAAB...Warren

War....Plum
UF...Orange
Joshua Tree...Lime
Rattle and Hum...Papaya
Achtung Baby...Peach
Zooropa...Kiwi
Pop...Rapsberry
ATYCLB...Cantaloupe
HTDAAB...Grapefruit

I was thinking of the band trying to understand the world, life and death looking through their 'Irish Eyes' - if you see what I mean - and not relating to it being an Irish album as such.

Maybe I should've named it 'Looking Through Irish Eyes' - that's a better title ;)

I thought Mother wa a good title in the fact that Bono's life and lyrical inspiration for many a song has been his Mother - looking to fill that God-shaped hole.

The band also had their Mother recoed label and Mother can also encompass many other literal meanings ie the world, life, spirituality etc...

Fourteen - because it was their fourteenth album (WAIA) a bit lame I know ;) but better than HTDAAB (IMO)

I want to see other fans have a go at naming the albums - so come on you lot!

Yeah but that includes Passengers...

That's why I've never liked the whole this is their 14th thing.

Boy ->Stories For Boys
October -> Gloria
War -> War
The Unforgettable Fire -> MLK
The Joshua Tree -> The Joshua Tree
Rattle & Hum -> Into The Arms Of America
Achtung Baby -> AB is great. But "Everything You Know Is Wrong" would be good too.
Zooropa -> Zooropa
Pop -> Boom Cha
ATYCLB -> U2 (Seems many comeback albums are self titled)
HTDAAB -> 2005 (What with the Help Africa campaign during the tour, the references to the death of Bono's father, and the references about the general international environment; it seems like this is the least timeless, most prescient album U2 have ever done. Thus the year as the title)

I think that "Innocence" is good but Boy is better cuz they were basically boys when it came out. And "America" is a little too obvious for "Rattle and Hum". But "Midlife Crisis"? Perfect........ esp. after POP:wink:
