Another post gave me this idea. If a friend asked you to give them some U2 material to listen to, what songs would you put on a CD to give them a well-rounded idea of the band? I put the limit to 30, because a friend deserves a double CD, NO?

I'm thinking on my thirty right now................and will let you know. But I'm more curious what YOU would give them....

I have filled two 80 minute CDs with the 'greatest hits', for the most part. I would've included songs like Until The End, Acrobat and Heartland on a 'best of' compilation. But I think the way to open somebody up to a band is through the easily accessible hits. They can always discover the gems by getting the albums. So anyway, here goes:

DISC ONE
1. Where The Streets Have No Name
2. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
3. With Or Without You
4. Bullet The Blue Sky
5. Pride (In The Name Of Love) - live
6. Bad - live from WAIA *was tempted to include the Live Aid version but couldn't fit it in*
7. Sunday Bloody Sunday
8. New Year's Day
9. I Will Follow
10.Gloria
11.Desire
12.All I Want Is You
13.Even Better Than The Real Thing
14.Fly
15.Mysterious Ways
16.One

DISC TWO
1. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
2. Numb
3. Lemon
4. Stay
5. Miss Sarajevo
6. Hold Me Thrill Me
7. Discotheque

Umm, i'd just give them achtung baby and the live zoo boot from dublin... that would about cover it.

I'd go with this suggestion. Only trouble is, everything else seems insubstantial and passionless after listening to it.

The problem is 'the best of 80-90' excludes Gloria and Bullet The Blue Sky when they could've easily fit it onto the CD. The Best of 90-00 is even worse, with unnecessary remixes and once again omissions like Fly and Mofo (needed for sheer contrast and understanding of what this band is capable of). These official compilation releases end up being a hodgepodge of material. That's why I'd rather make my own.

1.Mofo

I like your selections namkcuR, but I never thought I'd hear Gloria and Lemon called ballads.

Oh yeah, to add songs 3 and 4 to my list above:

(Edit: Invite me.)

(Edit 2: And serve vodka.)

(Edit 3: And AXVER AND LOVETOWN, SITTING IN A TREE, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.)
