you have to remember one of the themes of ATYCLB, it was about letting it loose, forgetting about all the nitty gritty things that society thinks about certain people (like the person in beautiful day losing everything but not caring), etc.. bono was trying to identify with the average person with his singing style i believe, he wasn't trying to be an "American Idol"

I would agree with you up until you mentioned Tyler.

He never had a great voice and actually when he got off the drugs it got somewhat better....if thats possible.
