Let's make a list of our favorite bands and musicians from Ireland.
Mine are:

Sinnead O'Connor
Devlins (just got into them, great band!)
Hothouse Flowers
Divine Comedy
Elvis Costello
Bob Geldof
The Waterboys

Oh, and U2!

Just playing the bad boy here, but...

The three acts mentioned above are NOT Irish. The Divine Comedy (RIP as I understood Neil Hannon has just disbanded the band) is English, as is Elvis Costello. He maybe has a house in Ireland, but he is English. And the Waterboys come from Scotland I believe.

C ya!

Well, I'm afraid that Neil Hannon was born in Londonderry in Ireland, so that makes him 100% Irish. You're right about the Waterboys though. But their music is so Irish, anyway. And Elvis Costello lives in Dublin, as far as I know...

I quite like Clannad. Their duet with Bono, In a Lifetime, is incredible. And Theme from Harry's Game used to be played over the speakers before and after U2 shows, on the War tour.

Fan named Matt (as a fellow fan prepares to take a picture of him with Larry): "You know Larry, I'm a drummer in a band too."

Larry (looks at fan and shrugs, smiling pleasantly toward the camera): "Well, Matt, we all have our problems."

(AIM-POPLemonGirl)

Christy Moore
Lunasea (they usually play here once a year, always fun "The Last Pint")

Maybe Elvis Costello's dad is Irish. I heard him on the radio recently....unusual first name McManus, he had recorded an album of Elvis songs years ago. They were discussing and sampling people who had covered Elvis Presley songs. Freddie King has an album called "King Does The King's Thing's"rotfl.

Other good Irish musicians? Go to Ireland , go directly to Ireland...throw a rock in the air, you'll hit someone guilty

Do they have to be living, playing, etc?

Cranberries
