Week 49 and 50 Chart News...
I haven't provided a detailed chart post like this for a few weeks, so I apologize for the length of this post. Week 50 chart news for Ireland, Australia and the U.K. is now available and has been included in this update. Week 49 chart news for the U.S., The Netherlands, and Canada is presented. The Global Charts have only been updated through Week 45.
In Australia, ATYCLB returns to the Top 50 in its 50th week after release at a rather impressive #33! Here is its run so far (each line is 10 weeks):

The album is 4x Platinum (280,000 copies sold). Hopefully, a new single ("Walk On") will be released soon to further revitalize the album.
This gives ATYCLB a total of 47 weeks in the Australian Top 50. For comparison, R.E.M.'s album, "Reveal," spent 11 weeks in the Australian Top 50 debuting at #6 and peaking at #5 in its 4th week on the charts. It is certified as Gold (35,000 copies sold). Radiohead?s "Amnesiac" spent eight weeks in the Top 50. The "Tomb Raider" soundtrack spent 7 weeks in the Top 50, peaking at #10.
"Fever" by Kylie Minogue is the #1 album in Australia.
I'm not sure if "Celebrity" has been released in Australia, but I have not observed this N'Sync album anywhere in the Australian Top 50.
"Elevation" peaked (debuted) at #6 and spent 6 weeks in the Australian Top 50 singles chart. "Beautiful Day" debuted at #1 and "Stuck in a Moment..." debuted at #3. U2 have now enjoyed three Top 10 hits in Australia from ATYCLB.
"Because I Got High" by Afroman is the #1 song in Australia. Although no U2 song appears on the singles chart, "Walk On" may be receiving some radio air play, which may have caused the album to return to the Top 50.
In Ireland, in Week 50, ATYCLB slips from #11 to #22. Here is ATYCLB's run to date:

(The "x" represents a week where data was not obtained due to the holiday season. I am assuming that ATYCLB remained in the Irish Top 10 for both of those weeks. The "*" indicates a week where there was some confusion on the charts - early reports indicated the album had jumped up to #3, but the chart I monitor showed no movement for this week.)
Despite the drop, U2's ATYCLB has not fallen out of the Irish Top 25 since its debut and has spent 35 out of its 50 weeks in the Irish Top 10. Hopefully, ATYCLB can remain in the Top 30 for two more weeks (giving it a full year in the Irish Top 30).
In Week 44, an unprecedented twelve U2 albums made Ireland's Top 60! "All That You Can't Leave Behind" was at #1; "The Joshua Tree" at #5; "The Best Of (1980-90)" at #10; "Achtung Baby" at #11; "Rattle & Hum" at #17; "The Unforgettable Fire" at #33; "Zooropa" at #35; "Pop" at #37; "War" at #40; "Under A Blood Red Sky" at #43; "Boy" at #45 and "October" at #60.
As stated above, ATYCLB has spent 50 consecutive weeks in the Irish Top 25. For comparision, Radiohead's "Amnesiac" spent only four weeks in the Irish Top 30.

The album has been certified as Triple Platinum (900,000 copies sold) in the U.K. Clearly, the effects of the tour have worn, as the album has been out of the Top 75 for the past two weeks. Hopefully a new single ("Walk On") will rejuvenate the album in the U.K., as well as in Ireland and Australia.
ATYCLB has spent 50 weeks in the U.K. Top 100. For comparison, N'Sync's "Celebrity" had the following run on the U.K. charts: #12-26-43-66-Out of the Top 100.

"The Joshua Tree" drops from #82 to #88 this week. Even though U2's tour in the U.K. ended in August, U2 still have two albums in the U.K. Top 100!
"Elevation" debuted at #3, "Beautiful Day" debuted at #1 and "Stuck in a Moment..." debuted at #2 on the U.K. singles chart. This gives U2 three Top 3 hits off of AYTCLB in the U.K., which is more successful than many of U2's albums, including "The Joshua Tree" and "POP." Hopefully, "Walk On" will give U2 yet another Top 5 hit in the U.K.
Musique Vs U2's "New Years Dub" spent 9 weeks on the U.K. Top 100 singles charts, peaking at #15. R.E.M.'s "Imitation of Life" spent 13 weeks on the U.K. singles charts, peaking at #6.

Thanks to the DVD release, "Rattle & Hum" lept from #172 to #1 on the U.K. video charts in late August/early September. This week the movie drops from #7 to #12 on the U.K. video charts. For a movie that was released in 1988, it is quite impressive to see this solid run.
In the U.S., ATYCLB fell from the Top 100 in its 41st week. Typically, I would stop monitoring the charts at this time. However, with the new single, various U2 promotions and return of the tour, I believed that ATYCLB would return to the Top 100. This premonition proved to be true. ATYCLB returned to the U.S. Top 100 in Week 45 and has not dropped out since.
In Week 49, ATYCLB drops from #50 to #57. This drop surprised me a bit as I expected the album to rise one more week before beginning another descent - especially since the tour was starting. However, a series of new releases may have finally pushed the album down.
Still, #57 is a great position for this album. "Stuck..." continues to rise on the charts (see below) and with the tour now on-going, this should keep the album relatively stagnant on the charts for the next month or so. That may be just enough time for holiday sales to pick up, which may give the album another boost.

"POP" was out of the Top 100 after 19 weeks and "Zooropa" was out of the Top 100 after 31 weeks. ATYCLB fell out of the Top 100 after 40 weeks, however, it has now returned for an additional 5 weeks. It has spent 45 out of 49 total weeks in the U.S. Top 100.
Approximate weekly sales for the first 49 weeks of ATYCLB are (rounded to nearest thousand):

Estimated total U.S. sales after 49 weeks are: 2,900,000.
In Week 45, when ATYCLB charted at #78, sales would typically be around 18-19,000 copies. However, Billboard claimed only a 19% increase in sales for ATYCLB. The SoundScan data from the week before (kindly sent to me by Melissa) showed sales of a little over 13,000 copies. This meant that with a 19% increase, sales could be no more than 16,000 copies for the week, which seems low (remember, this occurred before the tragedy). Nonetheless, I will use this sales estimate in my calculations.
In Week 46, at #66, sales would typically be around 22,000 copies. I took off 15% from that number due to the tragedy and estimated sales at 19,000 copies. Since ATYCLB was also listed as a "Pacesetter," I felt this estimate was solid.
In Week 47, the album jumped up to #53. Popmartijn saw an article that reported sales for the #50 album that week at 22,000 copies. Therefore, I estimated sales for this week to be 21,000 copies.
In Week 48, the album was at #50, so I estimated sales at 22,000 copies.
In Week 49, the album dropped to #57, but this may not necessarily be due to a huge drop in sales. That is, all of these new releases as of late may have simply pushed the album down. As such, I will be generous with my estimate and state 21,000 copies sold.
This puts sales at 2.9 million copies in the U.S. This may be off by a few thousand, but I feel it is fairly accurate.
If one estimates that stores have approximately 5x weekly sales in stock, that would put the shipment figures at just over 3 million copies. Therefore, while it's not official, ATYCLB, for all intents and purposes, has gone 3x Platinum in the U.S.
The "official" certification should come within the next month.
"The Best Of" drops to #14 (from #8) on the U.S. Pop Catalog charts this week. It had peaked at #5 on this chart a few weeks back. That #5 ranking was the highest this album has charted on this (or any) chart (note that the DOUBLE CD verion of the "Best Of" charted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200, but not the single CD version). At #14, this puts sales at around 7-8,000 copies for the week. I'm not sure what caused this surge of sales for the "Best Of" as there was no tour at the time, no new single and the tragedy had yet to happen. Nonetheless, it was nice to see people getting into "old" U2 music.
"Stuck in a Moment..." debuted at #62 (higher than the debut for "Beautiful Day") on the Hot 100 chart. This gave U2 their second biggest hit off of ATYCLB in the U.S. Its run to date has been: #62-58-55-52.
"Stuck..." is climbing slowly on the charts, but at least it is still climbing. On the very important Adult Top 40 charts, the song jumps from #18 to #13. If the song can keep climbing on this chart, that will give it a significant boost in reaching the U.S. Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (the chart to use when monitoring a song's success in the U.S.).
"Stuck..." has not entered the Top 20 on the U.S. Modern Rock charts. All of U2's other singles ("Beautiful Day," "Walk On" and "Elevation") became Top 10 hits on this chart. The slow rise of "Stuck..." on the U.S. charts suggests that Brian Eno will NOT win his bet (claiming this would become U2's biggest hit ever).
The #1 song in the U.S. this week is "I'm Real" by Jennifer Lopez. Lopez's album had fallen out of the U.S. Top 100, but thanks to this #1 song, it's been floating in the Top 20 for the last few months. "Pain Is Love" by Ja Rule is the #1 album in the U.S.
Patriotism abounds as "The Star Spangled Banner" by Whitney Houston jumps from #72 to #13 this week. An interesting side note is that for the last two weeks, brother Michael and sister Janet have simultaneously enjoyed Top 25 hits on the U.S. charts. "What's Going On" - the allstar tribute - drops from #27 to #30 this week. However, it seems that this ranking is based solely on airplay. As you all know, a CD single will be released so that proceeds can go to charity. Once the CD single is out, I would imagine this song will chart a bit higher.
In Canada, ATYCLB improves to #23 in Week 49. Here is the run for ATYCLB so far:

ATYLCB is certified as 4x Platinum in Canada (400,000 copies sold). The album has spent 43 out of 49 weeks in the Canadian Top 40. The rise of ATYCLB on the Canadian charts is clearly due to the success of "Stuck..." (see below). Although ATYCLB dropped on the U.S. charts this week, I think people in the U.S. and Canada should give themselves a pat on the back for keeping ATYCLB on the charts at the same moment it started to fall around the rest of the world.
The #1 album in Canada is "Look of Love" by Diana Krall. In its 11th week on the Canadian charts, N'Sync's "Celebrity" slips to #28 (below U2's album).
As stated above, ATYCLB has enjoyed 49 weeks in the Canadian Top 55. By comparison, The "Tomb Raider" soundtrack spent 10 weeks in the Canadian Top 100 album charts, peaking at #9. It sold approximately 7,500-6,500 copies for the first five weeks of its release. R.E.M.'s "Reveal" spent 10 weeks in the Canadian Top 100, debuting at #4.
"Elevation" had spent five weeks at #1 on the Canadian CD singles sales chart. "Elevation-Part 2" was #1 for four weeks while "Elevation-Part 1" was #1 for one week. This week, "Elevation-Part 2" remains at #5 while "Elevation-Part 1" remains at #7.
"Completely" by Serial Joe is the #1 song on the Canadian CD singles sales chart.
"Elevation" is the third #1 single U2 has had on Canada's CD singles sales chart from ATYCLB. "Walk On" and "Beautiful Day" also reached #1 on this chart. Three #1 singles on Canada's CD singles sales chart from ATYCLB surpasses the success U2 had with "POP" in Canada. The combined sales from both CD singles allowed "Walk On" to spend 6 weeks at #1. Musique Vs U2's "New Years Dub" peaked at #10.
The CD singles market in Canada is weak though and much more emphasis should be placed on Canada's airplay charts, "The Hits." "Stuck..." is doing brilliantly on this chart - outperforming even "Beautiful Day!" "Stuck..." has had the following run on the Canadian Hits Charts (airplay): #72-47-33-16-9-6-5.
"Beautiful Day" went to #10 last November while "Walk On" peaked at #35 last April. "Elevation" stopped at #15 this past summer. Looking back, "Discotheque" went to #6 and "Staring At The Sun" went to #5 in 1997. "Sweetest Thing" peaked at #4 in 1998. Therefore, if "Stuck..." can work its way up to #3, it will become U2's biggest hit on "The Hits" since 1997. "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys is the #1 song on the Canadian airplay charts.
As discussed above, all of U2's CD singles from ATYCLB have hit #1 on the Canadian CD singles charts. Therefore, once (and if) "Stuck..." is released in Canada as a CD single, I am sure it will jump to the top of the charts. This just makes Brian Eno that much closer to winning his bet - all Eno needs now is for the song to become a huge hit in the U.S.
In the Netherlands (this is a recapitulation of the information kindly provided by Popmartijn and Flying Padre Jr.), ATYCLB drops to #55 in Week 49. The run so far is:

"V" by Live is the #1 album in the Netherlands. U2's "Best Of" hangs on for one more week on the Dutch charts remaining at #100. It has spent 97 total weeks in the Top 100 on the Dutch charts.
U2's "Elevation" is still doing well in the Netherlands. It charts at #43 this week, down from #36.
"Can't Get You Out Of My Head" by Kylie Minogue is the #1 song in the Netherlands.
On the Global Charts, ATYCLB returned to the Top 30 in Week 40. The charts have not been updated since Week 45. Here is its run so far (each line is 10 weeks):

Estimated total U.S. sales after 49 weeks are: 2,900,000.
In Week 45, when ATYCLB charted at #78, sales would typically be around 18-19,000 copies. However, Billboard claimed only a 19% increase in sales for ATYCLB. The SoundScan data from the week before (kindly sent to me by Melissa) showed sales of a little over 13,000 copies. This meant that with a 19% increase, sales could be no more than 16,000 copies for the week, which seems low (remember, this occurred before the tragedy). Nonetheless, I will use this sales estimate in my calculations.
In Week 46, at #66, sales would typically be around 22,000 copies. I took off 15% from that number due to the tragedy and estimated sales at 19,000 copies. Since ATYCLB was also listed as a "Pacesetter," I felt this estimate was solid.
In Week 47, the album jumped up to #53. Popmartijn saw an article that reported sales for the #50 album that week at 22,000 copies. Therefore, I estimated sales for this week to be 21,000 copies.
In Week 48, the album was at #50, so I estimated sales at 22,000 copies.
In Week 49, the album dropped to #57, but this may not necessarily be due to a huge drop in sales. That is, all of these new releases as of late may have simply pushed the album down. As such, I will be generous with my estimate and state 21,000 copies sold.
This puts sales at 2.9 million copies in the U.S. This may be off by a few thousand, but I feel it is fairly accurate.
If one estimates that stores have approximately 5x weekly sales in stock, that would put the shipment figures at just over 3 million copies. Therefore, while it's not official, ATYCLB, for all intents and purposes, has gone 3x Platinum in the U.S.
"The Best Of" drops to #14 (from #8) on the U.S. Pop Catalog charts this week. It had peaked at #5 on this chart a few weeks back. That #5 ranking was the highest this album has charted on this (or any) chart (note that the DOUBLE CD verion of the "Best Of" charted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200, but not the single CD version). At #14, this puts sales at around 7-8,000 copies for the week. I'm not sure what caused this surge of sales for the "Best Of" as there was no tour at the time, no new single and the tragedy had yet to happen. Nonetheless, it was nice to see people getting into "old" U2 music.
"Stuck in a Moment..." debuted at #62 (higher than the debut for "Beautiful Day") on the Hot 100 chart. This gave U2 their second biggest hit off of ATYCLB in the U.S. Its run to date has been: #62-58-55-52.
"Stuck..." is climbing slowly on the charts, but at least it is still climbing. On the very important Adult Top 40 charts, the song jumps from #18 to #13. If the song can keep climbing on this chart, that will give it a significant boost in reaching the U.S. Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (the chart to use when monitoring a song's success in the U.S.).
"Stuck..." has not entered the Top 20 on the U.S. Modern Rock charts. All of U2's other singles ("Beautiful Day," "Walk On" and "Elevation") became Top 10 hits on this chart. The slow rise of "Stuck..." on the U.S. charts suggests that Brian Eno will NOT win his bet (claiming this would become U2's biggest hit ever).
The #1 song in the U.S. this week is "I'm Real" by Jennifer Lopez. Lopez's album had fallen out of the U.S. Top 100, but thanks to this #1 song, it's been floating in the Top 20 for the last few months. "Pain Is Love" by Ja Rule is the #1 album in the U.S.
Patriotism abounds as "The Star Spangled Banner" by Whitney Houston jumps from #72 to #13 this week. An interesting side note is that for the last two weeks, brother Michael and sister Janet have simultaneously enjoyed Top 25 hits on the U.S. charts. "What's Going On" - the allstar tribute - drops from #27 to #30 this week. However, it seems that this ranking is based solely on airplay. As you all know, a CD single will be released so that proceeds can go to charity. Once the CD single is out, I would imagine this song will chart a bit higher.
In Canada, ATYCLB improves to #23 in Week 49. Here is the run for ATYCLB so far:

ATYLCB is certified as 4x Platinum in Canada (400,000 copies sold). The album has spent 43 out of 49 weeks in the Canadian Top 40. The rise of ATYCLB on the Canadian charts is clearly due to the success of "Stuck..." (see below). Although ATYCLB dropped on the U.S. charts this week, I think people in the U.S. and Canada should give themselves a pat on the back for keeping ATYCLB on the charts at the same moment it started to fall around the rest of the world.
The #1 album in Canada is "Look of Love" by Diana Krall. In its 11th week on the Canadian charts, N'Sync's "Celebrity" slips to #28 (below U2's album).
As stated above, ATYCLB has enjoyed 49 weeks in the Canadian Top 55. By comparison, The "Tomb Raider" soundtrack spent 10 weeks in the Canadian Top 100 album charts, peaking at #9. It sold approximately 7,500-6,500 copies for the first five weeks of its release. R.E.M.'s "Reveal" spent 10 weeks in the Canadian Top 100, debuting at #4.
"Elevation" had spent five weeks at #1 on the Canadian CD singles sales chart. "Elevation-Part 2" was #1 for four weeks while "Elevation-Part 1" was #1 for one week. This week, "Elevation-Part 2" remains at #5 while "Elevation-Part 1" remains at #7.
"Completely" by Serial Joe is the #1 song on the Canadian CD singles sales chart.
"Elevation" is the third #1 single U2 has had on Canada's CD singles sales chart from ATYCLB. "Walk On" and "Beautiful Day" also reached #1 on this chart. Three #1 singles on Canada's CD singles sales chart from ATYCLB surpasses the success U2 had with "POP" in Canada. The combined sales from both CD singles allowed "Walk On" to spend 6 weeks at #1. Musique Vs U2's "New Years Dub" peaked at #10.
The CD singles market in Canada is weak though and much more emphasis should be placed on Canada's airplay charts, "The Hits." "Stuck..." is doing brilliantly on this chart - outperforming even "Beautiful Day!" "Stuck..." has had the following run on the Canadian Hits Charts (airplay): #72-47-33-16-9-6-5.
"Beautiful Day" went to #10 last November while "Walk On" peaked at #35 last April. "Elevation" stopped at #15 this past summer. Looking back, "Discotheque" went to #6 and "Staring At The Sun" went to #5 in 1997. "Sweetest Thing" peaked at #4 in 1998. Therefore, if "Stuck..." can work its way up to #3, it will become U2's biggest hit on "The Hits" since 1997. "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys is the #1 song on the Canadian airplay charts.
As discussed above, all of U2's CD singles from ATYCLB have hit #1 on the Canadian CD singles charts. Therefore, once (and if) "Stuck..." is released in Canada as a CD single, I am sure it will jump to the top of the charts. This just makes Brian Eno that much closer to winning his bet - all Eno needs now is for the song to become a huge hit in the U.S.
In the Netherlands (this is a recapitulation of the information kindly provided by Popmartijn and Flying Padre Jr.), ATYCLB drops to #55 in Week 49. The run so far is:

"V" by Live is the #1 album in the Netherlands. U2's "Best Of" hangs on for one more week on the Dutch charts remaining at #100. It has spent 97 total weeks in the Top 100 on the Dutch charts.
U2's "Elevation" is still doing well in the Netherlands. It charts at #43 this week, down from #36.
"Can't Get You Out Of My Head" by Kylie Minogue is the #1 song in the Netherlands.
On the Global Charts, ATYCLB returned to the Top 30 in Week 40. The charts have not been updated since Week 45. Here is its run so far (each line is 10 weeks):
