In the
U.S., ATYCLB fell from the Top 100 in its 41st week. Typically, I would stop monitoring the charts at this time. However, with the new single and return of the tour, I believe that ATYCLB may return to the Top 100. Also, the success the album is having in Europe right now has kept up my interest.
Just as STING provided Week 43 U.S. chart news, Melissa provided Week 44 U.S. SoundScan data, so I can now state exact U.S. sales for both weeks. Thanks STING and Melissa for the updates!
As previously reported, in Week 43, ATYCLB dropped slightly, from #106 to #108. In Week 44, the album rose to #104. However, sales dropped ever so slightly despite the rise on the charts.
In Week 41, ATYCLB sold exactly 13,798 copies; 14,491 copies were sold in Week 42; 13,302 copies were sold in Week 43; and 13,273 copies were sold in Week 44. As you can see, the album is holding VERY steady in the U.S.
There is a mere 29 copy difference between Weeks 43 and 44!
The first 44 weeks for ATYCLB on the U.S. Billboard charts are:

"POP" was out of the Top 100 after 19 weeks and out of the Top 200 after 28 weeks. "Zooropa" was out of the Top 100 after 31 weeks.

ATYCLB officially crossed the 2.8 million copies sold barrier this week! It is now less that 200,000 copies away from 3x Platinum status in the U.S.
The #1 album this week is Aaliyah's eponymous album, which sky-rockets in sales due to the singer's untimely and tragic death. The album jumps from #19 to #1, selling 305,911 copies this week (compared to 62,081 copies sold last week). Sad that some artists' greatest success is posthumous.
N'Sync's album drops from the Billboard Top 10 in its 6th week on the charts. "Celebrity" charts at #12 this week (down from #5), selling 98,352 copies (a drop of 40,000 units). While N'Sync's "Celebrity" may have enjoyed that monstrous first week, with 1.88 million units sold, by Week 6, it is already selling less than 100,000 copies a week and has disappeared from the Dutch and U.K. charts. In contrast, U2's ATYCLB sold over 100,000 copies for its first
9 weeks (proving that it continued to attract buyers after the initial hype) and remains on the U.K. and Dutch charts after 44 weeks. Once again, once has to question: is N'Sync really the
World's Biggest Band?
No major surprises this week on the charts. Aaron Carter's albums are both gleefully plummeting from the charts (his second album is #31 after only 4 weeks and his first album is now #105 after 49 weeks). Proving that one can rebound up the charts after falling from the Top 100, Madonna's "Music" jumps up from #122 to #80, increasing sales by 6,200 copies. U2's appearance on the VMA's or the success of "Stuck..." or the return of the tour may spark sales and return ATYCLB back to the Top 100 (especially seeing as how it is just out of the Top 100 now).
The SoundScan data did not report Catalog sales, so I don't know if the "Best Of" jumped up again on the Catalog charts or not. However, I estimated 11,000 copies sold last week when it charted at #6 on the Catalog charts (the highest its ever been on that or any chart). It'll be interesting to see if it improves again this week.
That's it for the U.S. charts for now (until the Billboard data comes out on Thursday).
