Vegas rocked, babies! The crowd was alive and screaming; hell, with all the Interferencers there, it better have been loud! I still haven't heard Out of Control yet, and by my calculations, they should have played it last night. Oh, well, there's always the 40th leg. Wild Horses was great, although incomplete. The girl who played People Get Ready was great. Parking was free! The downside was that exiting the lot was unsupervised, so it took ten years to get out of there. Everybody smokes everywhere in Vegas, so this old girl still can't breathe. Meeting many of the Interference Bunch was too much fun. We'll hear from the rest of them after LA3 tonight I'm sure. I did miss you, Diamond! But we'll always have SLC!

PS, My sweet hubby loved his first U2 show, but he's not quite ready to load up the Volkswagen bus to follow them around just yet. I'm woroking on it though.

We shall see if this works...I am having a hell of a time with the reply function on this thing today.

...

First off, I want to preface by saying that I wish I could have seen all of you at Vegas. I feel badly seeing all these posts about us bragging about going to Vegas, etc. and people feeling left out. Cuz if I had it MY way, I'd have flown you all down there and we could have had the biggest party this side of the arctic circle. But alas, we do what we can.

In any case, here's my fuzzy recollections after 2 days with minimal sleep.

I arrived in Vegas Saturday afternoon and after walking around a bit, losing a dollar in my first gambling attempt (damn slot machine), and seeing people in wedding clothes going to the Vegas chapels, I made it up to the Hard Rock Hotel to sign the Interference banner made by jezebel. While there, I got to meet some of our super-cool interf members...jezebel, tiny dancer, and martha, and murlio, and even some whom I don't know the names of because they've just registered or lurked for a bit. We chilled out to bootlegs, sipped drinks, and ate some of martha's fabulous homemade cookies. mm mm good.

Then it was down to the Hard Rock Cafe for supper and drinks. This bit was sort of confusing as everyone ended up in separate small groups and it was hard to know who was an interferencer and who was a stranger. Not of all us had tags (errr...I would be included in that number) so it was kind of a case of either asking complete strangers if they were here for the U2 thing or not. lol. And we weren't the only ones there celebrating the upcoming show. The table behind mine had a noisy group of fans (they ended up being the ones running the GA line) that egged one of their guys into running a lap around the restaurant when Streets came on the loudspeaker.

It seemed to me that when everyone started hanging out at the bar was when it gelled a bit more. I met so many people from here and I won't even try to get all their nicks written because I'll forget them or mangle them. It's so weird to meet someone that you "know" by one name and have to get to know them by another one. Discotheque, Sicy, LarryMullen'sPopAngel, Salome999, zonelistener, MrsEdge, Elvis, pub crawler, Danospano, sonicsmurf, Angel, EPandAmerica, Like02, moonisplayingtricks and...lots more. Anyways, lots of fun just hanging out and chatting with strangers.

I don't know what happened to the rest of the peeps, but a small group of us wandered over to MGM to see if anything was happening there only to realize that we had just missed the Britney Spears concert. What a disappointment!

We had heard that there was already a small group of fans trying to line up at the arena but that they had been kicked out several times by security. They started a "line" and gave out numbers on hands, etc. By the time spanisheyes and I got there and found them at 2am, we were numbers 105 and 106....that should give you an idea of how crazy the GA situation was. We ended up sleeping in a car in a the parking lot and then reassembling in line in the early morning. Security then moved everyone over to a designated area beside the arena.

...

...

I had a lot of fun in the GA hang-out. I ran into people that I'd been in line with at other shows (oh hey, remember me from XYZ show? oh HIIII!) and it cracks me in that the more shows I go to, the more people I recognize. Fun tho...a bit like a loose-knit community. There was a guy in GA who is the closest thing to a Bono-clone that I have ever seen and of course he was getting pulled into lots of pictures. Twas fun to watch people arrive to the GA line and see this guy wandering around chatting with fans...their eyes would get kind of big, they'd do a double-take and then start laughing. Diamondbruno was there of course, but I'll let him tell you all about his day as I'm sure he'll do.

So, that was GA...lots of the usual thing. Ordering pizza, listening to bootlegs, discussing past shows, comparing books, magazines, scrapbooks and photos with other fans, etc. Oh, one really cool thing...there was a guy that was chatting with some of his friends in the line just before we started going into the arena, and apparently he was a taper and trader. He handed out a couple of bootlegs from the Oakland shows to people just because they had been there and he thought they should have them. And he handed me a copy of the 11/9 Salt Lake City show (even though I wasn't there) just for the hell of it. Isn't that cool?

As far as the actual show itself, I'm not going to be a whole lot of help with the details because I was so exhausted from lack of sleep and dehydration that it all is a bit of a haze right now. (of course the fact that I had to fly out right after the show and have been on a plane since then till about now may also have something to do with that state of affairs.

) spanisheyes and I were in the heart at first, but decided to move outside to the area around the tip as there was still some room at the railing. It was interesting to see the show from a different perspective, and between the two of us I think we took about 5 rolls of film...so SOMETHING should turn out.

Bono pulled a girl out of the crowd who had a sign saying "This chick can play a mean guitar" (or something similar) and a list of songs including 'People Get Ready'. When he pulled her up, she lost her sandals and jumped onto stage barefoot and had to get her shoes from one of the guards. I thought she did a great job on the song tho, kept up with Edge quite nicely, following him up the heart to the stage while Bono trailed behind. He improvised some lyrics about how she seemed to prefer the Edge. lol. Lonely Bono?
biggrin.gif
When they finished the song, he shared the mike with her and she belted out the last few notes with a lot of passion which seemed to impress Bono. So, kisses for her from Bono AND Edge. A girl beside me mutters "Oh, I hate her SO much!" lol.

Other highlights, which you've already heard, was a snippet of Who's Gonna Ride on the end of Bad, and I Can't Help Falling in Love with You at the end of One. There was a Elvis impersonator in the side front GC section, and Bono was directing comments towards him off and on during the show..."This one's for you, Elvis!" etc. Oh, and the other thing that made me laugh was a sign that was a few feet away from me which said "Adam, let me ride your wild horses!" to which Bono laughed quite a bit. Dunno if Adam saw it or not.

So, that's all from me. I'm sorry to ramble on and on. Again, I'm also sorry that not everyone was able to be there...I would have loved to meet you all! Perhaps if we have more of these get-togethers before shows, at some point we will have all met each other somewhere or another, eh?
biggrin.gif

Cheers to everyone! It was fun to put faces and personalities to names and I hope we can do it again.

p.s. While we were in line that afternoon we got the word that apparently the GA line for the next show in LA had already started. omg...crazy!

Hahaha, martha, nice thread title!

Sula, martha, great meeting you both. Met so many good people, and had a blast kickin' around town with y'all.

As for the concert, I managed to pick up a GA ticket close to show time and I got a great spot near the tip o' the heart! U2's performance?? Um, it was a U2 show,
nuff-fucking-said!!

I'm not going to write a full-blown review of the show --I'm too damn tired and I leave for LA3 soon! Take care y'all.

Awesome report you guys!!

Vegas and meeting everyone was so much fun!

Thanks for posting reviews coz Sicy is busy scanning pics.. lol.

biggrin.gif

oh yeah, forgot one other thing. There was a girl there (whom I think is from the forum) who'd flown all the way from Australia for the show! Talk about dedication, eh? She was really sweet. I hope she enjoyed her first U2 show and that she comes back to post and tell us how it was for her.

Hi guys, I'm here cause sula told me to....

oh not really! Last weekend was just TOO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!! It was great meeting at least some of the interferencers, but sula was right, things got confusing at the Hard Rock Cafe and I didn't get to meet some of you. It was great when they were playing Streets, I got so inspired that I was singing to my table (hmmmm, coulda been the margaritas). Got to meet some of my buddies from Phoenix, too!

never saw so many U2 t-shirts in my life, even at Slane
biggrin.gif

martha, you're right, no dead people in Vegas, it was a really good crowd, but I think it was because most of us are from somewhere else
biggrin.gif

and great to read lucky julie's story too
biggrin.gif

only on Interference!!!!!

WHAT A WEEKEND my friends. Meeting so many fellow interferencers was so cool and exciting. The concert was such a emotional and moving experience. U2 rocked the house and everyone there rocked as well!!!!

Would have loved to hang out longer at the HRC longer with all the fellow interferencers. However all the damn cigarette smoke was just a killer. my eyes were burning so bad i didn't think i could walk to our hotel just across the parking lot at the Hard Rock Hotel. We were hoping to get a little banner signing party, but being that it was vegas, drinking was a higher priority which didn't bother me seeing as just about everyone signed it the next day in line.

great review sula. This girl from Aus, was she from Perth? I think she may be a friend of a friend of mine.
BTW, where are all the pics of you Sula? How come you werent in them???!!!!

Her name is LuvLady. Kate. She was sweet!
We were hoping she'd get to dance with Bono for coming all that way!

Yeah personally, I think we should have met at the Hotel not the cafe.. but I had forgotten what they looked like when everyone was making plans. The hotel bar seemed bigger and there are restaurants in there also, but the Cafe was cool! All that U2 music they played, it was great!

Heya Boop...if your friend is Kate from Perth, then yes it was her. She was a total sweetie. I think Bono did dedicate a song to her since several people made signs saying "Kate came all the way from Australia" and such. Her first U2 show too, I think.

As for me and being in photos...I'm not in any yet. I'm kinda camera shy. But no worries, I know I jumped into a few; they're just not developed and posted. You can see me in all my red-eyed, messed-up-hair, camping-out-for-GA splendor.
wink.gif
lol.

It was great when they played the five or six U2 songs they had on the loudspeaker at the HRC. lol. I think it was ASOH, Streets, ISHFWILF, WOWY, Bullet. You could tell that more than half of the people there were going to the concert because they all started singing along. lmao. Great fun. But too bad we didn't have a private room or something because it was rather hard to find everyone that was an interferencer.

Oh, did I mention that the staff at the venue was really well organized? Despite the fact that they wouldn't let us camp out, they did honor our numbering system and escorted the entire line of 300+ at 8am across the street with a police car blocking traffic, and then lined us all up in a designated area and put down astroturf for us to sit on. Sure beats the concrete.
