The Playboy Mansion suffers lyrically. According to U2 by U2, Bono originally had a totally different set of lyrics for it, and he even thinks it would have been better than the end result.

He could have gone for something that wouldn't have aged like a banana on a counter top, but isn't that sort of the point of the song? He frames this and shines a light on how ridiculous these fixations on beauty and popular culture are with the final verses, which dwell on eternal things. It's a very interesting song, and Edge's porno flick wah-wah guitar tone is hilariously appropriate.

One Step Closer, one of my favorite u2 tracks. Has grown on me and now its just about perfect to my ears.

yahweh, not sure if this qualifies, but it seems lots don't like it around here. i like the album version, but the live version is the one that is one of my favorite u2 tracks. loved seeing that one live, and was a highlight to vetigo shows to me.

Yeah, I'm also a fan of Yahweh, but only the album version. I don't care for the bouncy beat of the original demo, or the acoustic version. To me, it's all about Edge's electric guitar.

Playboy Mansion, EPAA, and Red Light. I pretty much hate the rest. Miami... non merci. Some Days... meh, it's okay, I guess... I only listen to it if I'm listening to Zooropa all the way through. Crumbs... *throws up*. Grace, Peace on Earth, and a bunch of the rest of ATYCLB... boring!

I love you.

 Your defending of Miami on the 'least favourite songs thread', inspired me to start this one Zoots.

I agree with everyone who mentioned The Playboy Mansion, really like its understated tone and Bono's final knowing line about getting through the gates of the mansion are great. Lyrically its a bit dated and I too would like to see/hear the alternative lyrics, apparently they're far more emotional.

I think Pop's a pretty substantial album which you can keep going back to and find new things each time, tracks like Gone, Miami, Mofo, TPM and others still really intrigue me. The most recent album lacked this quality for me a little, I felt there wasn't all that much to rexplore on subsequent listens, hopefully the new album will rectify that.

Al go for
Hands That Built America
Stranger in a strange land
Miami (espesh live:drool:)
Last Night On Earth
Playboy Mansion (love playing this on my bass)
Staring at the sun (Album Versh)
Surrender
EPAA
4th Of July (Reminds me of warm summers days listening to UF)
A Day Without Me (I never hear any love for this song on here)
ABOY
Love Rescue Me

A Man and A Woman is a decent effort and is one of their better songs of the decade. The original version of Party Girl does not deserve the hatred it gets. Elvis Presley and America is an all time fave of mine. As I stated in the other thread, I think Miami is great.

Walk On and Miracle Drug are beyond Redemption for me though.
I also agree with Gmans list apart from ABOY and Love Rescue Me.

Red Light:up:
Stuck In A Moment(depends on situation)
A Man and a Woman:heart:
The Hands That Build America:up:

Both of these songs give me the total U2 feeling, I love them.
Though I feel Miracle Drug has never worked out live, but I liked some of Bono's speeches before that song, some of the things he said were very moving, also the story behind it, and it helped me appreciate the song even more.
With both songs, I'd say, the studio version is better than the live version, which is rare for U2 songs.

I've always liked the studio version better, too. I think you're the first person I've ever seen on here who agrees with me.

Elvis Presley and America is one of my top ten favorite U2 songs. I don't understand the hate.

And I love Red Light! For the Trumpet Solo and the back up singers :madspit:
