I prefer U2 because they are less gay.

What a f**k?! On what planet are you living on? Are you serious?
I still get amazed that still in this world there are people that are afraid for something natural.

I think that Queen is objectively the best band and somehow managed to cover and excel in so many different musical genres it is undeniably impressive.

Still, I do believe that U2 is the more accessible band.

Thank God they´re not mutually and I can enjoy and love them both just as well.

I would bet my right arm the answer is no.

Actually, knowing Canadiens, I would bet both my arms.

Oh geez....:lmao:

As far as the question which band is better, I think someone said earlier that Queen are far better players so they naturally sound good together, however U2 has more heart and soul than Queen did. Was Freddie a passionate singer yes, 100% no questions asked, does that make the band more passionate than U2...no...

U2 is the better 'band', but Queen is not very far behind...but they could've all been successful on their own or in other bands...U2 needed each other to achieve greatness...

You must be joking: Queen was the better band by far. With better musicians and one of the very best voices, the rock/pop business ever had.
But that's not everything: U2 are my favourite band by far. With the four guys still playing, making music & going on tour in the future – and a back catalogue, that has become part of my life ...

It has struck me that Queen was less than the sum of its parts. And with U2, it's just the opposite.

which is the better band?

my vote goes to Queen. (original line up)
i wonder what queen would sound like if freddy was still around :(

umm...are you serious?

U2 by leaps and bounds, miles and miles, light years away, in a different league...

queen is 1 dimensional in comparison to U2...

Bono shouldn't even be compared to Freddie..(and yes, I have listened to both for awhile and I'm not some Bono maniac)....Bono not only sings with more passion and spirit behind his voice, but he writes FAR better LYRICS, more meaningful and deep...his voice is just so much more dynamic..yes Bono goes through his ups and downs but so do all singers...overall Freddie just pales in comparison

but yeah, this is no contest...U2 wins easily

U2.

I've never really liked Queen. I'm actually shocked they rate so highly among so many here.

They were one of the greatest bands (a little hard to compare to U2 since they are from a decade before). I saw them around Radio Ga Ga era & they were as good as a U2 show. Brian was to harmoniser as Edge is to delay & the rhythm section of both groups are superb. I will say Freddie had a technically superior voice to Bono. People didn't care that he was gay or Arab, because he had the charm & charisma.
I just personally like U2 better but that's not to say Queen werent as good. I rate them even.

Don't really like Queen much. They're aight.

But asking this question on a U2 forum is kind of lol.

although if it was U2 vs. Radiohead, Radiohead might win out...

Queen are four coffees, a half dozen crullers, and one jelly donut!! An unparalleled mix of emotional greatness. I've got other bands I listen to more often, but I'm not sure any of them (including U2) can touch their range of melancholy and joy. If Freddie had lived on, I'm sure they would have had an amazing career rebound.

They're two different bands with only one thing really in common. At their peak they were the best live bands ever.

But really two different things that are really good at the things they do cannot be compared. One really isn't better than the other... Well, maybe.. Queen knew how to party.

I read a great article about Queen's debauchery.. After parties held in hotels with tons of drugs.. Midgets carrying plates of cocaine around on their heads... Certain live shows where Freddy would run off stage to be "pleasured" in between songs.

Good times.

I have listen to Queen and I enjoy them. But no, Freddie dosent come close to Bono's soul and passion. Ann I still think that Bono have a much more variation in his voice. And Bono's voice has always changed, wich also give him more variation.

Give me some example's on where Freddie sings with such a passion and feeling on:

The live performences of SYCMIOYO
Night And Day
One(Modena 95)
Kite(Live)
Wild Irish Rose
Dreamin with Tears in My Eyes
The opera part in the beginning of WTSHNN on Slane
Please(Popmart live)
Well the list can be long.

Sure.

You Take My Breath Away
Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)
Love Of My Life (Live)
Spread Your Wings
Somebody To Love
Dear Friends
Bohemian Rhapsody

All the high notes in the world don't mean shit without a giant heart behind it.

Fred had giant heart. You can feel it.

U2

I've heard a bunch of Queen songs, and I respect them. But they're just not for me. Thanks. :D

Two of my favourite bands of all time. I've loved Queen since I was a little kid. If this poll were based on 70s Queen alone, I would say Queen were the better band. But unfortunately, they lost the plot between 1982 and 1991. Still wrote some great hits during that time, but their albums, with the exception of A Kind Of Magic, suffered as complete works. (Well, they had an excuse in the late 80s - Freddie, rest his soul, was dying). 70s Queen though...oh man, what a band.

There is one thing I am absolutely sure of, personally speaking: Freddie Mercury was about ten times the vocalist and performer that Bono is. And because people will jump on me for that, :blahblah:, here you go: IMO. I watched Live At The Bowl the other day for the first time in a very long time. It struck me again just how much of a genius that man was. Hands down, my favourite performer of all time.

I still get shivers when I hear the intro to It's A Beautiful Day.

*Reads through that old U2 vs. Queen thread link*

:crack:...wow.

Interesting debate, though. I think each band probably had their period where they were better than the other, be it in terms of popularity or songwriting or live shows or whatever. I do agree that technically Queen would probably win, if you go on that alone to determine who's the better band. But it's easy to define who's "better" in terms of technical skills. Anything else, though, is merely subjective.

I just know that I'm mainly familiar with Queen's big songs, and I love them. But I'm very familiar with U2, I listen to them a lot more often, I grew up with them more than I did Queen, so naturally I'd probably be biased towards U2 in this debate. That said, it's like I've said in the constant debates regarding U2 and the Beatles-both artists have their place in music history and I enjoy hearing both of them whenever they're played.

Also, just because someone personally may not find Queen's music passionate or with feeling doesn't automatically mean there wasn't any there. It just means that it didn't move them the way it did someone else-and that's fine, to each their own. But the fact is that there are people out there who get just as much out of Queen's music as we here get out of U2's music, so obviously there's gotta be something there.

I'll check out those Queen links people have been posting sometime. I've not seen much in the way of live footage with them, and I'd love to see samples of what they were like live :).

Somebody To Love is my favorite Queen song. That was a great version
Love Of My Life was very

Didn't get a chance to watch the others. Saw them live twice in the early 80s. Freddy was a great performer.

As for this thread, I think it's personal preference, and I still prefer U2

Definitely is a great version of Somebody To Love. You should think about getting the DVD. ( http://www.amazon.com/Queen-Fire-Live-at-Bowl/dp/B000640XQQ ) There, a perfect Christmas present! Bohemian Rhapsody is beyond perfection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVhwMy6W5Hk . Yeah...some of the Hot Space tracks kind of suck, but I just skip 'em when I watch it.

And it's official - I'm so jealous of you and your husband. You've both seen all of my favourite bands at their touring heights! Pink Floyd, Queen, Supertramp... Please don't tell me you've seen Echo & The Bunnymen in the 80s too. If you have, we'll have to trade bodies and I'll have to get my hands on Edge's time machine.
