Ok, this was my first U2 concert ever. It was so good I almost pooped my pants. Ok, it wasnt just almost.

Anyway, I was standing directly on the other side of the heart, right in front, holding on to a fence/barrier (I know, i was super lucky). The first time Bono, or anyone in the band stepped out onto the heart, he came over directly in front of us and stood there and finished Beautiful Day there, I screamed a lung out.

Strange happenings at the concert: A girl came on stage during Stuck and danced with Bono, they turn around and she grabs his butt, Bono pulls her hands up and puts them around his neck with a big smile, and then puts his hands down like he's going to grab her butt, he didnt though. Another thing of interest was Bono saying that he doesnt usually have anything good to say about politicians, but that Orin Hatch (Utah Senator) really helped on the drop the debt campaign. You dont hear too many musicians complimenting Orin Hatch! hehe.

Over all, I still cant stop thinking about how cool it was and how fantastic it was. Amazing! I can die happy, knowing i saw U2 in concert, hehe.

Glad you enjoyed it, and hopefully you'll see many more U2 shows in your lifetime!

*can't believe it was a girl and not db9 who grabbed Bono's butt

*

My addendum: Orin Hatch's name has never sounded so cute as when it was said with an Irish accent. This was a great show. Edge rocked the whole time, the band was tight, and Bono's voice was powerful and healthy.

Oh yeah, and No Doubt still sucks.

Edge did rock, Bullet the Blue Sky was AMAZING!!!!!!!! I was staring at Edge the whole song, I couldn't believe what I was hearing!!!

This concert was just amazing! I couldn't have asked for more. A lot of people here know about the 3 sisters thing in Phoenix and San Diego, well, it happened again. This time Bono changed the words in Walk On to Home is where 3 sisters are. It was so awesome. We made contact with every member of the band. Adam especially. We were playing around with him all night. He is awesome. I don't feel like writing a real long thing right know so if one of my sisters see this, tell some more. Also, hi to everyone we met there (Mulio?) I can't remember your name on here, sorry. The concert was just amazing. I couldn't ask for more except for, perhaps, a couple more concerts.

Oh ya, another cool thing was Bono singing a bit of Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses at the end of Bad! Everyone was singing along LOUD! Bad, and Where the Streets Have No Name were both the highlights of the show for me, they were just fantastic live that night.

I was just going to add Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses to my previous post. That was just awesome!! Just an observation, but it seemed like the lady he danced with pulled herself up more than Bono pulled her up. I think that he just got stuck (ironic that it was that song too) and had to dance with her. The people around me thought the same thing and we were on the front row (Adam's side).

I agree Jilly, he kinda had a weird smile like, ok, what ever. Her dancing with him was funny, but kind of ruined the song for me a little. I thought it was sounding great live, and then her coming on stage kinda annoyed me.

Good, afterwards, one of the stage guys, not Dallas, the one on Adam's side came and handed Bono his guitar. My wonderful lip reading skills saw him saying "good job with that" as if he hadn't wanted to dance with her. I quit watching, I was having too much fun with Adam during the song. I love him, he is hilarious.

I am one of Jilly's sisters. You should have seen Jilly during Stuck. We didn't want to see Bono dancing with her, so she made up these crazy actions to the words, and Adam was lauging so hard.

It was such an amazing experience. We got in line Thursday night, we were 25, 26, and 27 in line. Was anybody else in that line? They guy at the front, "linemaster" as he called himself was an interesting dude. The GA line was suprisingly organized, so we were right in front of Adam. It was a great show. All four of the boys recognized us. During Walk On, Bono played his guitar solo while making eye contact with the three of us. Then he changed the words (in Walk On) to "That's where the 3 sisters live" instead of "That's where the hurt is" It was so awesome. Everbody I've talked to never heard the 3 sisters, did anybody here?

Ok so I am the third sister. Definately an AWESOME show! It was so great that Bono and Adam actually recognized us from San Diego and Phoenix. I was just happy to actually have Larry smile at us a couple times. He is usually so undistractable! But I saw Adam point us out after Jilly did the crazy actions to Stuck and then Larry gave us a grin a couple times. Also very cool when Bono came over and grabbed each one of the 3 sisters hands, and then when he played his guitar solo in Walk On to us! And then of course the lyrics change to home is where the 3 sisters live! What a night! It just keeps getting better every concert I go to!

I thought it was a great show too. I was in Portland last spring and I thought the Salt Lake audience was much more enthusiastic. I was sitting pretty close to the stage, and I thought that Bono motioned for the girl to come on up to the stage-didn't he? What is the three sisters story? I saw DiamondsexyBruno at the show, but was feeling to shy to introduce myself. I thought the People Get Ready guy did a pretty good job actually. How were the preshow and after show parties? Did anyone stay at the Wyndham Hotel? I thought I saw a lot of people there that were going to the concert. Anyway, good show. But, it would be great if they could play for like 20 minutes longer. Bono's throat probably would not hold out though.

You should have introduced yourself to Diamond. He is very friendly and approachable.

Diamond was the only one from this list that came to the after party, but we were joined by a large group that included some of the very first people in line, some of whom were "staying" at the Wyndham. The funny thing is that they had a room there even though they live in town, but then they slept out in the cold at the venue. LOL! They had a very expensive place to leave their stuff.

U2 blew the lid off of SLC and Bono more than once seemed impressed with the fan enthusiasm (doesn't everyone say that about their own show?). Anyway, personal highlights for me were:

* Getting to the 3rd/4th row in front of Bono despite being #208 in line. I kept thinking "where are the 207 people that came in before me?". #70 was right next to me.

* Watching Bono grab that girl's butt after she grabbed his. "Got you back!".

* The sign at the front row of the heart that said something like "Today's Olympic event: Adam playing the bass naked". I think Bono had a good laugh at that.

* Bono playing rock-scissors-paper with fans outside the heart. He held up 3 fingers and nodded his head indicating that he must have won.

* Bono telling Bin Ladin to "kiss my royal Irish ass". He then gave Edge this classic, raised-eyebrow look as if to say "I can't believe I just said that!".

* Bono reading my "Me+Edge: Wild Honey" sign even though he didn't pull me up. Good for the piano guy, though!

* Bono hitting Edge with the spot light during Bullet from the other side of the heart, across the sea of waving hands-- very cool image.

* The band walking off stage for the night and Bono, almost past the drumset, comes back to the mic and says only "Wow".

* And finally, getting an Edge pick from the ever-cool Dallas Schoo after the show!

By the way, did anyone catch the band driving into the arena? I gave it until 4:15pm and then stayed put in line.

208!? I was 209!

What do you look like and/or what were you wearing? I was the woman with the green hat and the cream colored sweatshirt with the tree on the front. How funny is that? I spent most of the day back with the folks in the 220s. I couldn't figure out where to park at first so I just parked in a 15 minute spot, got my number and then found a place to park. By the time I got back 10 or more people had shown up. When we actually all got lined up I was in my correct place.

Were you one of the brave souls who were trying to help remove cutters from the line when the idiots at the Delta Center couldn't figure out that the numbering system was a GOOD thing?
rolleyes.gif
Thank goodness for the SLC police!

I think the reason you were able to get so close is that not everyone wants to be at the front of the heart. Some folks want to be on the outside time, others on the inside tip, and others near the rails.

I was on the rail in front of the stage in front of Edge in San Jose, and I found being toward the back of the heart this time to be much better. There was so much room in the back half of the heart that I could wander around and get within a couple people from the catwalk when the action was out there, and within 10-12 people from the stage when the band was all up there. I heard that because of Salt Lake's GA concerns there were less people than usual in the heart. There was a ton of room.

If you were waiting for the band until 4:15 they must have snuck in somehow because they were soundchecking around 4:00 when I was in the bathroom. (they let us in one at a time to use a handicap bathroom with one toilet) There were two entrances to the parking area so maybe you were at the wrong one. There really is no room for them to come out and greet people at the Delta Center anyway. I haven't heard of anyone seeing them.

I was really impressed with the audience enthusiasm, and the band seemed really relaxed and like they were having a great time.

Ok, the three sisters story in a nutshell for partygirl.
Me and my 2 sisters flew to San Diego to see the show on 1st leg. We were on 2nd row halfway between Bono and Adam. We had a sign that said 3 Sisters with 1 Bono. They saw the sign, and Bono changed the words in One from Sisters, Brothers, to 3 Sisters, 3 Brothers(Adam, Larry, Edge). Then my sisters saw the show in Phoenix (I couldn't come) and had the same sign, except the 3 was crossed out and said 2. Then he changed the words to 2 sisters, 3 brothers. Well, 7 months later, we saw the show, and our sign said that we were back. The 4 recognised us which is unbelievable because they've been touring and have seen so many faces and were able to remember ours. I think you can find the SLC story in this post, so I hope that works, partygirl and Ally

Gotta be a total rumor. I was there freezing my ass off from 3ish to around 5:30. The postal trucks came and went, but these guys show up in limos and with cop motorcycle escorts usually. Some guy who was waiting thought it would be cute to say the band was in the postal trucks.

Hey diamond-- LOVED the black socks thing you had going!

SLC was a better than the Vancouver show which is the only other one I have seen. A couple of guys I met who have seen 7 shows on this leg said this was the best one so far. Did anyone else notice Bono after he sang the opener when he sort of smiled more than normal. I turned to my friend and said this show is gonna rock because the audience is so loud and responsive. As stated previously in this thread, Bono came back to the mike and said simply "WOW" at the end. I looked around a few times from the heart and everyone was clapping and moving even in the top tiers. The Delta Center is so cool, I even stayed an extra night to see the Raptors play the Jazz( Raptors won, Vince 39pts)

Special thanks to murlio for helping me get my GA. You da man.

Thanks to the line people who kept everything in order. I especially enjoyed shouting "OUTOUTOUTOUT" at the cutters.

Shouts out to Carla who I met in line who got to give her rose to Bono near the end of WalkOn. We were so happy for her.

I drove 1700 miles to see this show and it was well worth it. SLC rocks! I don't think SLC will be left out next time U2 tours. I think they enjoyed us as much as we enjoyed them.

Peace

Figures, Diamond! I was nice to meet you down there anyway.

U2Utah- I remember you. I wore a black sweater and jeans and was one of the line cops. If the DC had just put up some barricades, all would have been much better. Hopefully they won't walk away with a bitter GA aftertaste.

I know some people peeled off for the tip of the heart, but that was only 10-15 when I got down to the floor (cause they temp closed the heart and we went out to the tip). Guess everyone's got their preferences where to hang out-- I'm not complaining!

K so after all of this talk, did someone record it? Please say yes. We have been lucky enough to get copies of the other shows we have been too (we had to buy San Diego off of ebay) and it would mean a lot to get a recording especially because he changed the words for us. Just keep your ears open and diamond, i can't wait to see your pics!

NO WAY!!!!

Ok, I'm not actually trying to start an argument, just Vancouver was my only U2 show so far

You have to admit it was pretty awesome too. 23 songs!! One of the longest shows on the tour. Great energy, I think Bono was really impressed with the crowd. Anyway, if you want to explain why SLC was better, go ahead and try!

Glad it was a great show.

Hey, this is Murlio(Ryan). Which one were you?? i met so damn many people that i can't even begin to remember names. We camped out with the three sisters. they were totally cool. And we met the dude who played watchtower during the denver show. i'm so flippin' jealous of that kid.
I still can't believe my buddy and i were #28 and #29 in line. You wouldn't believe the assholes trying to cut in line at about 6:00pm. It was hell trying to keep their asses back in line. some still managed to get in the heart. and that really pissed me off. But by the time the damn show started, all was forgotten. I mean how can you even begin to bitch about anything when you get front row to u2. I was gonna post some of my pics but i don't know how. Any help would be appreciated on that.
Anyway, this was my 4th u2 show and it was absof****nglutely believable.

I agree with Vancouver being an amazing show. It is the only other show I have seen. You are correct in that the audience had great energy, and Bono was impressed. SLC had even more energy ( hey, I was blown away by how loud it got during WTSHNN, it was deafening) and I knew from the second song that Bono and the band were impressed with the response and enthusiasm from the people. Also, the Delta Center is small compared to GM Place which created an even more intimate atmosphere due to the steep angle of the seats. I was in the heart and looked around many times to see the crowd participation and was stunned by the sight of 15000+ people going crazy. It was so cool. I'm Canadian and to hear U2 songs among an American audience during this difficult time added to the intensity and emotion of the concert. Some songs during this leg have been chosen for their meaning specific to the events of September 11. The imagery during "ONE" brought tears to my eyes. I felt a little closer to our American neighbours.

The Vancouver show rocked and I loved it too but the SLC fans were louder, more energetic and incredibly involved or maybe it was because I brought some Canadian love with me. One final moment was after the band said goodbye to the fans, Bono backed away and said "Wow" but there was no mike so he walked to the mike and said "Wow" into the mike. Hey, just one man's opinion.

You give it all but I want more

Hey Murlio, nice to see you.

The SLC show was so loud, my pants were vibrating with the bass and my ears were ringing until this morning.

It really was an amazing show. The band seemed to be very relaxed and just having a good time. I was very pleased that the Utah audience was so loud and enthusiastic. I've been to concerts where that wasn't the case.

Special thanks to the line masters! They did a great job, though it was almost ruined by the idiot security at the Delta Center. They didn't want to honor the numbering system and large numbers of people were trying to cut around the 150 mark in line. I was 209, where line cutters could mean the difference between in the heart and not. There was some serious ugliness going on. (If you've ever tried to merge onto a freeway in Salt Lake, you would no better than to try to cut in line here
wink.gif
) Some brave men and one very brave young woman went up to help get people out of line and to talk to security. Finally it was the police who decided to honor the numbers.

Once in the heart, it was a great experience. In San Jose I was at the front of the heart right in front of Edge, but I found the back of the heart to be even better this time. You can't see the tip of the heart well if you're in front of the stage because the tip is too low. From the back you can see everything great, and because Utah was so nervous about GA there were fewer people in the heart. I could go toward the front and be 10 or 12 people from the front, then wander back and be 2-3 people from the catwalk at the back, wherever the action was. It was great.

YAY for the 3 sisters!!!
smile.gif
you girls are awesome- congrats on a great night! btw, i want to hear about your adam interactions.
smile.gif

and too funny about the chick pulling herself onstage. that happened at the first NYC show- some crazy girl in an "I Love NY" tee-shirt somehow jumped onto the heart ramp during "New York"... i have NEVER seen anyone run as fast as bono's bodyguard did when that happened! bono handled it really well, though- even when she was humping his leg (no joke!).

thanks for the great reviews, SLCers!!!

Hey Murlio - I'm Jennie the oldest of the 3 sisters. Hope you made it back to Montana safely! I can't wait to see your pictures because I am sure that WE are in them!!! Post them here when you get a chance.

Oh yeah - if anyone hears of any mp3's floating around PLEASE let us know. The 3 sisters really want a copy!
