Why would anyone want to do that?

No he hasn't ... yet.

He opens a few of the concerts coming up later this month.

Yes, you are quite right. I knew he was opening, just not when.

Ooh, I'd love my cousins' band to open for U2 in March!

Lone Justice

and

Little Steven van Zant (aka founder of Sun City project aka Silvio from the Sopranos)

pretty sure the hoodoo gurus opened a few shows
ummmm...
weren't the smashing pumpkins supposed to open a couple of shows on zootv outside broadcast?
the red rockers?
the caulfields?
i'm trying to remember what it says in that 'u2 live' book...that lists every opener from every show.

Marshall Crenshaw opened New Haven on the JT Tour, Lone Justice pulled out last minute... don't have the Tour book with me, but just had a flashback to reading that.

little steven van zant opened for U2 at Giant's stadium, Meadowlands, N.J., 1st or 2nd leg of Joshua Tree tour. It was one the 1st times they played 'One Tree Hill' in concert (Bono dedicated it to Greg Carroll). They also played 'Silver and Gold', although I think the studio version is superior. 'Party Girl' was one of the encores.

Is this the show you mean: 1987-09-14?
