memphis is planning a huge concert to mark the 50th anniversary of rock around this time next year. (they explain how they picked the date in the articles, it's because of when certain classic songs were recorded.) anyway, among a list of rock's most elite that memphis wants to perform, U2 is high on that list!

they say it'll be a three-day music festival with tickets running ~$50 - boy, doesn't that sound familiar! that's pretty much the price for the annual memphis in may music festival.

you can read two stories about the concert. gomemphis.com is memphis' local paper's (commercial appeal) website, you don't have to register to read the articles.

U2 won't play festivals anymore, and I also doubt that they'll ever play in Memphis agian. Nashville is just the hot spot for bands to play in Tennessee. But it is possible. But after Memphis yielded poor ticket sales on Popmart, they probably resent your city! ;) Just kidding.

right...except for that part where i said we have a huge music festival here every year.

with it possibly being televised by mtv and featuring people like rolling stones, justin timberlake, and linkin park, i doubt the ticket sales would be poor.

MTV, Justin, Linkin Park....somehow I wouldn't be disappointed if U2 declined. :|

 i know! i at least take solace in the fact that they are also wanting to ask other big rock acts like rolling stones and b.b. king. but unfortunately, i know people like them would just draw a few thousand middle-aged men, but justin and linkin park?! why, that would mean several thousand hot teenage girls, so mtv could make it a softcore porn concert and just film the audience like they always do.
