Remove 1 minute of silence between All I Want Is You and October
Angel of Harlem (3:49)
When Love Comes to Town (4:17)

Running To Stand Still(4:18)

Gloria (4:13)
Out Of Control (4:13)

NOTES: I have read that many fans have felt that Rattle And Hum was over represented on the Best Of 80s and I agree particularly when it was at the expense of their earlier work. U2 could argue that early 80s work is significantly inferior musically lyrically and vocally to the later 80?s work. That is true but I would advocate that there is still some very good tunes and it also demonstrates their artistic growth. At the same time I am not over representing their early 80s work. U2 already decided to include One Tree Hill on it though only on the Japanese release ! Running To Stand Still is gorgeous song and a big favourite among U2 fans. I believe Heartland is superior to When Love Comes To Town and Angel Of Harlem. I can see U2 arguing that the ?atmosphere? of Heartland is similar to the song The Unforgettable Fire and the ?emotion? of One Tree Hill. But hey that?s what they were excellent at doing in the 80s. And I can see U2 arguing that When Love Comes To Town and Angel Of Harlem demonstrates better their artistic versatility and the experiment with ?American musical influences.? But we have the blues-rock of Desire and the country feel of All I Want Is You to represent that. Drowning Man is a hidden gem like Heartland. Never released as a single and never performed live. With it?s double interpretation of a faith and romantic song I thought it would flow well between I Still Haven?t Found and All I Want Is You. Gloria is clearly a faith song and sure U2 in the late 80s and especially during the 90s ? as Bono said in Flanagan?s Bible - is more into ?drawing the fish in the sand? approach to proclaiming their faith. However - their days of a more explicit revelation of their spirituality was a part of their history. Nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed by. Gloria is a very good rocker. Out Of Control is lots of fun ? lots of energy ? a very good rocker.
(Sweetest Thing (The Single Mix) was used to promote the album so it?s not necessary or is it theoretically appropriate. One could even argue that Angel of Harlem and When Love Comes to Town which were ?hits? were included to promote the album to casual U2 fans and non-fans.)

11 O'Clock Tick Tock (Studio) - 11 O'Clock Tick Tock 7" Single (3:42)

11 O'Clock Tick Tock (Long) - And Here is?: Martin Hannett Tribute CD (4:00)

Could also replace the edit versions with the originals ?
Hallelujah Here She Comes (4:00) This is an edit of the version found on the Desire single which was (4:12) in length.
A Room at the Heartbreak Hotel (4:32) Yet another edit...The original from the Angel of Harlem single was (5:30) and ended with more "hallelujah's"

I'm pretty sure "Jesus Christ" isn't even a U2 song for one. It's some sort of Bono collaboration if I remember correctly. What exactly is "Sweet Fire of Love"?

BTW, these songs along with "Christmas" weren't B-Sides so that's why the band didn't include them. Same for "11" and "A Celebration" as there the A-Sides of their respective singles.

Yes I have given B-Sides a broader definition to include Band side projects. Jesus Christ is performed by the entire band and it is a found on a tribute to Woody Guthrie album. Sweet Fire Of Love was co-written by Bono and it is performed by the entire band. It can be found on Robbie Roberston's self-titled album.

I would include the following on the A-sides disc:

1. 11 O'Clock Tick Tock
2. I Will Follow
3. Out of Control
4. Gloria
5. October
6. Sunday, Bloody Sunday
7. New Year's Day
8. Two Hearts Beat As One
9. Pride
10. The Unforgettable Fire
11. Bad
12. Where the Streets Have No Name
13. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
14. With or Without You
15. Desire
16. Angel of Harlem
17. All I Want Is You

In a more interesting order, naturally.

The label might say "Best of," but of course, it's just a greatest hits compilation that strives to give an even-handed representation of the decade. I think this list does that; there's nothing too obscure included, and everything was a single or a live favorite. Also, it doesn't overrepresent any albums (I think "The Electric Co.," "40," "MLK," "One Tree Hill," and "When Love Comes To Town" deserved places, but omitted them for variety).

good approach - chronological and equal representation - it looks like you have time left for 1 more song and with Tick Tock falling under the Boy period which 3rd October song would you include ?

* Desire
* All I Want Is You
* Angel of Harlem

* With or Without You
* Streets
* I Still Haven't Found....
* Running to Stand Still

* Pride
* Bad

* New Year's Day
* Sunday Bloody Sunday
* Two Hearts Beat As One
* 40

* October

* Out of Control
* I Will Follow

Not sure how I'm doing for time, but that's 16 songs. Pretty good lineup, if I may say so myself.
