The "My God We Need a New Album Because We're All Going Insane" Thread

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Yeah, a new album would certainly be nice.

At least we'll have some concerts/bootlegs to briefly tide us over soon.

I know the Zoo TV Sydney and Vertigo Milan DVDs are coming out soon but does anyone know if any other concerts are being planned for release?

would you want any more out at this time ?

i think a zoo tv and another vertigo would be over kill.

Give popmart if anything like another 3 years.

Apparently Buenos Aires for IMAX.

With all the shit going on in the world...maybe they'll be inspired to put something out there.

Please give me something to listen and hold onto.

I still think October 2007 is a good date for the album. Of course, this is one of the strangest recording situations the band has been through in a long time, so we could either be pleasantly surprised, or greatly disappointed.

Yep, October/November 2007 would be a good time. Honestly, I don't think they can afford to wait until 2008. They aren't a young band any more, and although that shouldn't matter, it does in today's world.

Has there been any recent news about the release of this? Any dates?

I haven't seen any; that's why I said 'apparently' - I hope it's still going to happen!

Zooropa II - Coming September/October 2006

If U2 could release a quickee album, ala R&H or "Zooropa", October would be an ideal time. They could once again capitalize on the Christmas holiday season and it would be great new material for the last bit of the tour.

The holiday season sales should never be overlooked. U2 wisely used this to their advantage for R&H, AB, ATYCLB and HTDAAB. Also, both "Best Of" albums were released then. As Bono once said, the goal is to have an album succeed through two holiday seasons. AB, ATYCLB and HTDAAB did that as all of them received significant holiday boots their second Christmas and were still charting then!

But if U2 are to release some sort of half-live/half-studio album or a shorter EP-ish/"Zooropa" type album, then they have to hurry. Time is short and realistically, unless U2 have been working their butts off since their tour stopped, I doubt they'll have it ready in time for a late October release. Don't forget, these days, U2 also needs that HUGE first single. "Discotheque" started out strong, but soon lost favor with fans and this killed poor "Pop". But "Beautiful Day" grew and grew and lifted ATYCLB with it. "Vertigo" had the ubiquitous commercial and was a great rocking song - which in turn lifted HTDAAB. Given how the music industry works today (where even Eminem uses iPod commercials to help sell his albums!), sadly U2 needs this type of commercialism to get heard. Will U2 have time to "strike another deal" and make all the necessary videos and appearances to promote? Again, I doubt it. This isn't 1988 any more, where new U2 was enough to chart a #1 album and a Top 40 hit.

A new album and video would also tie in beautifully with the new video iPod that Apple is going to release around that time.

Isn't there a lot to actually discuss? The tour is about to pick up again, we got soundtrack material from the band, the upcoming DVDS, there's that beach clip that just surfaced.

It's not like there's NOTHING going on in the world of U2.

I think they will bring out a shortish album by the end of the year. Like Zooropa I dont think it needs to have any huge singles, just great music, and I think they are more than capable of that.

Although my head says that this is unlikely, it would be superb. I wish they could just get over the fear of failure that Pop instilled and let things go out there quicker.

i cant explain why but i just get the vibes that a new album is coming soon, maybe because i have been a fan so long and had so many disapointments waithing for albums that have never come:)
I think there will be an album by November! Oh please!!!!!!!!!

Got me thinking this did........and here is my question. I could prob find this out myself if i could be assed, but, what is the longest barren u2 period? How long and what years? And I mean with no output at all? I rekon prob after Rattle and Hummmmmmmmmm but could be wrong.

that was a fairly barren period, i remember it well!
Only Night and Day came in between I think, though that was fantastic!
I would say that the gap between pop and ATYCLB was fairly long, 3 1/2 years with nothing but the new mix of "the sweetest thing" to whet our whistle!! Gimme night and day anytime!

Am having a rethink and am off the opinion you talk much sense gav! I had toyed wi the Pop- ATYCLB period. But somehow my previous thoughts seemed a longer period of time, and it sounds like you suffered the same as i did during that times.
Maybe its to do with the older you get, the quicker time passes and it just seemed longer as we were young whipper snappers in them days

This is a response to all the album bashing threads.

I don't think we'll see a new album in october this year. That's in a week or 10 so by now they should be in post-production for the album right?

I think we'll see a new album in 2007, october.

What happened by the way to that James Bond soundtrack, Casino Royale? Maybe u2 is recording that song, because the new bond movie will be released soon.

Well, between RAH in late 1988 and Achtung in late 1991, there was the Lovetown Tour from September 1989 to January 1990. So I wouldn't really call that a 'barren' period.

I'd say end of Elevation Tour to release of Vertigo single.
