"Streets" Ranked 28 on RollingStones "100 Greatest Guitar Songs"

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

But purely sound-wise, did any of those 3 bands kick the door of hair metal off it's hinges and send it hurtling to it's death, like Nevermind did? I'm asking because I don't know how those bands sound. Were they really as earth shattering as Smells Like Teen Spirit?

No.

In 1991 Guided By Voices were unknowns outside of Ohio. And Pavement weren't really a band yet. Sonic Youth were an underground mainstay, but they couldn't write a song to save their lives.

None of them could have done what Nirvana did. Even with subsequent work.

This list is pure trash.

Even "Streets" isn't a great choice for guitar song at all.

If you're talking about greatest guitar songs, for U2, it's gotta be something 90s. Edge pushed the electric guitar to its limits in the 90s, and many guitarists (I see you, Mr. Morello) are still copying his style.

Any bands/songs with regular flute appearances automatically cancel out any guitar work.

That's why it's not on the list.

If Nirvana wouldn't have broken through and "saved rock n' roll", someone else would have. It was all MTV, not their innate originality.
