I know this is goofy as all hell, but I've always thought U2 could really nail it on Petula Clark's "Downtown"

"So maybe I'll see you there
We can forget all our troubles, forget all our cares
So go downtown, things'll be great when you're
Downtown - don't wait a minute more
Downtown - everything's waiting for you
Downtown..."

how about lucy in the sky with diamonds? i can imagine
how bono vocalizes the line... the girl with kaleidoscope eyes...
fantastic i think!

let it be

it may come across as corny, but given bono's interest in all things spiritual, i bet the band could put together an amazing, updated "let it be."

also....

fake plastic trees
pictures of you
when does cry (perfect lyrics for bono, "maybe i'm just like my mother ...")

yeah that one too. i think they can do good covers of beatles classics. esp the one from the let it be album.
how bout 'let's give peace a chance' or the goofy twist and shout! and another mcartney classic where he gets to use a rspy shouting vocals.. i forgot the title though.

there is a light that never goes out - the smiths
she's lost control - joy division
blues from a gun - the jesus & mary chain
woke up this morning - alabama 3

Dry County - Bon Jovi
Everything Is Real - Ian McCollough
Red Hill Mining Town - Dream Theater

Cheers,

J

Wasnt Belfast Child by Simple Minds?

Anyway, I reckon Bono's vocals would work well on Floyds' Wish You Were Here track, rather than anything from DSOTM..

I'd love them to cover 'One of Us' by Joan Osborne, not because i'm religious, but just because I think it's a beautiful song anyway, and that it would sound even more beautiful if U2 covered it semi-acoustic.

I HAVE to hear them cover "Play That Funky Music" - c'mon, the lyrics are perfect for Bono!

At first it wasn't easy
Changing rock 'n roll and minds
Things were getting shaky
I thought I'd have to LEAVE IT BEHIND
But now, it's so much better
I'm funking out in every way
But I'll never lose that feeling (you know I won't)
Of how I learned my lesson that day
