You can swipe left or right to turn around. The Muse video feels like a video game.

That was cool. I can't imagine how amazing it will be five years from now.

Yeah, beginning of the year. Typical. Still thinking the band releases the album this year.

I don't see it happening. They will second guess and tinker with the music.

I mean, we don't even have an announcement of the tour resuming. So they don't have a hard deadline to meet.

U2 should heed Tony Visconti's words about Blackstar hitting #1.

I am so proud of my dear friend's accomplishment. One is just a number, but in this case he made an example of how true artistry and real quality can reach number one in the album charts. I'm reaching out to the top artists of today. Don't pander to the the illusion of commercialism -- even the biggest hits of today's sales pale by comparison of the sales of past decades. Do what you f**king want to do, not what you think you have to do. #DavidBowie, #Blackstar.

U2 should definitely stop chasing the pop charts. If anything, they should make the kind of music that stands for itself, not something to be filler between commercials. They don't need to target a demographic that is younger than their own children. That's absurd. Hopefully someone in their camp has told them that.

Just make the best music you can, stop rubbing sugar and honey all over it. Live up to your name(s), and stop with all of the premature ejaculation or blue balls.

Songs of Innocence had plenty of material that could have ruled the alternative rock charts, had they gone that direction. Instead, we had songs for someone and miracles of joey ramone, which aren't terrible, but certainly not strong singles.

i might even be in favor of them releasing shorter, more cohesive albums, instead of albums that sound like they were pieced together in different eras by different bands. Stop trying to be all things to all people, just be who you were when you were nothing and had nobody to follow you around the world and carry your luggage.

I hope you're not asking for a revived Joshua Tree cause that's not gonna happen. And I'm quite happy it won't. Not because it wasn't a fucking great album but because I admire and respect how U2 keep pushing for something new and different. But I certainly agree that chasing a commercial success is not going to lead to any sort of greatness.
Regarding the tour (and hence the album, sorta) I'm still optimistic. If the tour is to start for example in september, we still have time :) It's all possible and things do point towards a tour (giving away tickets certainly does). It's normal that they're taking a break. But I'd certainly love to see them back in the studio. Then again, maybe they don't need to. If they're just mixing at this stage, that can be done from anywhere, right? (this really is a question)
In any caseI'm pretty sure Bono's vacation is coming to an end. I think after Davos he'll go back home and my guess is that the rest of the band will follow and we'll soon be hearing more "we're practically done" interviews ;)

We're just getting lost in the music will be spoken and this forum will all give up on the band ;)

Honestly, this forum already seems like it's on its last legs. I know we keep saying it's downtime for the band so it's bound to be quiet, but the last album/tour cycle didn't really seem to stir up much of a flurry here..

I mean, even PLEBA is dead. You figure there'd at least be a thread for Bono pictures happening, but nada!

I'm convinced the only way to revive it will be to shed 90% of the subforums. The active ones seem centre around dedicated discussions threads like this one anyway. Drop em all except one for U2 music, one for touring, and one for all off topic.

U2.com subcriptions valid until Jan 31, not long until we hear something (or there's just a lame new subscriber gift and we continue hearing nothing).

U2 should heed the words about maintaining an artistic vision that isn't obscured by chart or sales 'success', but should totally disregard the unwritten subtext about how dying when your album comes out is a sure way to get to #1 on the charts.

I've been on other forums where there's maybe 10 regular posters at any given period and somehow they still keep going. I'm sure this one will be fine for quite awhile.

I agree. I'm a U2 fan, I don't give a shit "what you just ate"...

As a fairly new member, I agree. Other U2 forums I'm active in are much "cleaner" (as in: the threads mostly evolve around U2, only a few offtopic threads but they are limited). In fact, as a new member it's kind of hard to navigate this forum. There seems to be more crap than actual U2 stuff...

this place can be fun when there's a lot of activity. Consolidating all the discussion that is happening (albeit in 14 different locations) will give the impression of a livelier forum

I came from gear page (Even Better Than The Real Thing??) so I never discovered other parts; but as soon as I found non-U2 thing or other in-depth conversation about music in general, I started to absolutely adore this forum now.

I only roam around the EYKIW, Tour and Bang & Clatter sections of the forums. I think I have the rest on ignore. But yeah, activity has decreased. It gets really active when U2 albums are imminent, though.

That's interesting that should say that because the site has actually become EASIER to navigate in recent years. And one of the great things about this site is that, while U2 is the main focus, there are many other topics of popular culture and current events to discuss. If U2 is your focus, then there are many threads to participate in. Since the mid 1990's, U2 usually releases a new album every 4 or 5 years. Then the tour follows within 6 months of that album's release. So, for roughly 2 year intervals, there is ample to discuss about U2. Then, once the tour ends, the discussion is about the next album/tour to possibly come down the pipeline.

Yes, I'll admit that Out of Control is indeed out of control, but the folks who post there are certainly entitled to do so. One person's crap is another person's fun or entertainment.

People that used to hang out in pleba are either not active anymore, lurking or posting on other sites like U2start (amazing photosection) Tumblr, Pinterest (which is horrible imho) etc. I loved PLEBA when it was active, but its never been this dead. Ever. And even during tour time it was very inactive.

Used to only post there when I was new, but slowly discovered all the other sections like EYKIW and the Lemonade stand for off topic stuff. All I want is U2, and like those equally.

Only things I deem unnecessary are the game threads.
