Sing this with me, this is 40)

I waited patiently for the Lord
He inclined and heard my cry
He lift me up out of the pit
Out of the mire and clay

I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song

How long to sing this song?
How long to sing this song?
How long...how long...how long...
How long...to sing this song

He set my feet upon a rock
And made my footsteps firm
Many will see
Many will see and hear

I will sing, sing a new song
I will sing, sing a new song

(Sing it!)

How long to sing this song?
How long to sing this song?
How long...how long...how long...
How long...to sing this song

(Thank you. Good night)

Sadly I have never witnessed this song as closer, but it sure was a great way to end the concert in the Eighties.

"40" is one of U2's signature songs.

It was one of the songs that U2 chose to traditionally end their concerts with in the '80s and is one of this lifelong U2 follower's MOST BELOVED songs!

It simply states a theme from the Bibile that Bono has used over and over again quite effectively in various songs of U2's over the years.

The theme is that there is always hope -achance to be redeemed, to find Grace in this life.

"40" is a song of resurrection from despair (Bad). It is a SONG OF TRIUMPH and a simple yet heartfelt prayer of thanksgiving to the Almighty.

As a person who has seen this song performed live, I can tell you its impact is mightier in person than possibly on a CD.

I hold "40" very close to my heart. It has guided me thru some difficult times.

Thanks for bringing this song up for discussion.
