I have a lover
A lover like no other
She got soul, soul, soul, sweet soul
And she teach me how to sing

Shows me colours when there's none to see
Gives me hope when I can't believe
That for the first time
I feel love

I have a brother
When I'm a brother in need
I spend my whole time running
He spends his running after me

When I feel myself going down
I just call and he comes around
But for the first time
I feel love

My father is a rich man
He wears a rich man's cloak
Gave me the keys to his kingdom coming
Gave me a cup of gold

He said I have many mansions
And there are many rooms to see
But I left by the back door
And I threw away the key
And I threw away the key
Yeah, I threw away the key
Yeah, I threw away the key

For the first time
For the first time
For the first time

I feel love

My favourite from Zooropa. And considering that is my second most favourite record (just behind Achtung Baby), that is saying a lot. To me at least. :)
Anyway, a great and somehow mysterious ballad.
As said above, it's bloody brilliant. :D

Good song, don't get me wrong, but I still don't believe it should have appeared on the Greatest Hits CD....."Please" was more deserving.

I really like it, though I don't know how well it fit in with the rest of the material from Zooropa... bygones.

Beautiful lyrics. Beautiful music, too! :up:

Well they started BTBS with The first Time on the Zooropa tour at locations such as Wembley and Dublin... basically it ends with Bono singing "... and for the first time, I feel..."

The band then launches into it and Bono repeatedly sings "Love!"

I'm guessing that's what kennerado means.

as a song itself, it's far from being one of my favourites.
nevertheless, it becomes perfect in the million dolar hotel opening sequence... it's one of the most beautiful cinema moments that i've ever watched

Amazing lyrics. Extremely religious, it is about the Holy Trinity.

Lover = Holy Spirit
Brother = Jesus
Father = God

I didn't really understand the full meaning of the song until seeing the Million Dollar Hotel. It's haunting....
