One

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you
Now you got someone to blame
You say one love, one life
When it's one need in the night
It's one love
We get to share it
It leaves you baby
If you don't care for it

Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's too late tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one but we're not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
One

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one but we're not the same
We hurt each other, then we do it again

You say love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter but then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on to what you got
When all you got is hurt
One love, one blood, one life
You got to do what you should
One life with each other
Sisters, brothers
One life but we're not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
One

Excellent song....how was the pre-taped performance last night? I never got to see it.

I am truly sick of this song. May it never be played live again. Amen and amen.

This song is such inspiration to me. My cousin died of Aids 12 years ago, and everytime I hear this song I think of him.

Sorry to hear that, but I think that is one reason why songs like One, Walk On, Peace on Earth, etc. are so good. Not just musically but the emotional connection the songs have with people and certain events.

I think it's still a great song. One of the universal anthems of which U2 has quite a few. While I don't have a special connection to this song, I am often positively surprised and touched to see how it resonates with people. And then not necessarily the huge U2 fans, but the casual observer and 'light' U2 fan.

Regarding the live versions, it doesn't always hit magic for me, but it still regularly does. And I continue to cherish those moments.

It is a good song. The ending in the live versions could be better. It is insanely overplayed by now, though, and should be given a rest.

I could live without it, to be honest.

I just never thought it actually fit on the album. It has grown on me over the years, but the melody, I always found it kind of annoying.

I think making a million different videos for it was kind of pushing the whole thing, too. Not to mention the fact that everyone seems to treat it is their finest moment.

Granted, it did save them from breaking up, but I don't think that warrants it as being their best song. I'm just trying to remember who said it was Lennon-esque when they first heard it, Eno?
