Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you now
You got someone to blame
You say...

One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night
One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don't care for it

Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's...

Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
One...

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One...life

One

isabelle,

to comment this i have to enter in another level... it's not a matter of rank it in my faves list, if i prefer live or studio, if the guitar is fine, what outro do i like most, whatever... it's in a level where words can't be fair.

a song not hear but to feel, the ultimate song. the one that would choose if i could only listen to one more song.

Words will never do it justice. a step up from brilliant. kind of like John Lennon's "Imagine" taken a mile further.

I for one, am glad that I am alive at the time this song came around. The U2 members could have been born in the year 2080 and I would have missed this song. I am, in a way, blessed.

I think it's a great song with possibly Bono's best lyrics ever, however hearing it so much on the radio back when it came out kind of ruined it for me. I can only take it in small doses.

Their most beautiful song--I think this was U2's saving grace--it came along when they needed it the most. We are one-but we are not the same really says it all.

yeah and i think it's even better when it's played live....
the popmart in mexico version did me cry the first time i saw it
and that never happened to me with a (U2) song

I loved "One" for the longest time, and I still enjoy hearing live versions. However, I have heard this so, so, so many times on the radio that I can hardly stand to listen to it. "One" is the only U2 song I ever got tired of hearing.

I remember hearing this song for the first time and thinking that as much as I loved the lyrics on JT, Bono had totally gone to the next level.

Like everything off Achtung Baby, it is over-rated but still absolutely wonderful.

Shame that Automatic Baby ripped it up and butchered it.

"One" is a song which resonates in the deepest part of the human spirit because it speaks to the basic need that everyone has - the need to belong and to feel loved.

The song chronicles the pain of a relationship in crisis, at the breaking point. It is tinged with bitterness and frustration. Bono states a list of grievances and accusations at "the other" and defiantly lashes out at them. (You ask me to enter and then you made me crawl. But I can't keep holding on when all you got is hurt.) :(

But then....the transformation. In spite of all this, Bono remains committed to the relationship. He refuses to give in to the negativity and CHOOSES TO SEE ONLY THE GOOD in the relationship and the other. BONO CHOOSES GRACE OVER KARMA. Unconditional Love over the conditionality of love.

And in this choice, Bono resurrects a faltering relationship and breathes new life into it.

This aspect of "One" is what I feel makes the song so immense, so all-encompassing. It can be used as a guidepost for how we should react to others in almost any situation. It is what God would have us do - EXTEND GRACE TO EACH OTHER INSTEAD OF CONDEMNATION.

And Bono was the vehicle once again through which God could so magically reveal this message. :bono:   ;)
