San Diego just sucks for buying music in store I think. We have next to nowhere left to buy it. Best Buy used to be ok but they've scaled back, no more vinyl, and only a tiny music section. The only U2 they did have was like 1 Joshua Tree and 1 Best of 90's. That was it. Didn't even bother putting the new one out today. They were never a music store anyway, but without Tower or Sam Goody anymore, there's nowhere else.

Aw man, I lived in San Diego for three years. Loved my time there.

Hey, is Upstart Crow still open?

I went to my local Hastings, and they had a big display with all of their albums. Including the remastered deluxe albums, all of their live dvd's, a few classic vinyls and of course the new album. I was really happy. Been trying to find PopMart and ZooTV for ages, didn't even bother buying the album, but still spent $80 on U2 stuff. I just had to get the dvd's, October and Under A Blood Red Sky on vinyl. They were too tempting and I didn't get any weird looks like I might be buying a gay porno.....not that there's anything wrong with that.

I got mine at Hastings, too. I had some used CDs to turn in for store credit and ended up only having to pay $4.86 for the deluxe SOI. They had it on the new music shelf, but at the very bottom near the floor! There were only about four copies of the regular version and a ton of the deluxe edition.

There were no displays promoting it and I had to look around for a while before I found it, since they're always moving stuff around in there and I didn't know the current location of the new music section. I always buy new U2 releases at Target, but I wasn't sure if they'd have the deluxe edition and I wanted to use my store credit, so I broke tradition this time.

There's a Record Store Day app that lists all independent record stores all over the US. I am sure there has to be some indie stores in San Diego that still sell records, new and used.

Bought it at FYE. they had the album as part of a "New Release" display but only about 5 copies in 1 "cubby" and in the actual U2 section there weren't any(they did have about 5 CD singles of the Magnificent remixs).

I also went to Barnes and Nobel and I couldn't find it at all.

Okay....time to give the new songs their first "spin".

First up.....Invisible Album Cut!

Invisible Album cut: I liked the "edit" and the extended intro really adds to the song. The slightly extended "there is no them" at the end is a nice add as well. Over all, its a slight improvement over the edit version. I (still) enjoy this one!

The Troubles Alternate version is not bad and has some aspects I like more than the album cut but they made the right choice about which one to put on the album. I give this a 5/10

Next up.....Sleep Like a Baby Tonight Alternate (Im excited about this one as I like the album version).

I'm a big fan of the alternate SLABT. I see it more as a companion song as it is from the victims perspective. More like a reprisal version if the same song.

I really enjoyed this. Thought his vocal delivery was better than the album cut and the falsetto was better too (not strained). The guitar and overall mix of the song on the album is much better but this is a cool song.

Dare I say I might like these lyrics better than the album cut. I'll be listening to this one a lot more, cool version. 6/10

Next up Lucifers Hands!

Not a fan of Lucifer's Hands, drums are nice but the song is very meh. 4/10

Now on to the song that every one is talking about. Let's see what all the hype is about, shall we.....

Ha! Good song right? I agree with those saying it just doesn't really fit on the album, but a cracking song nonetheless.

It doesn't fit, it sounds like its from a different album/recording session(hell it probably is) but man, if they forced it in I wouldn't have said a peep. I'm listening to it on repeat in bed and I'm dancing like an asshole and I don't even care. This song is really good from his vocal delivery to that chorus...fuck that chorus!

Who do we have to call to get them to play this song on their promo tour? lol

I would have loved it too, but I'm just glad we have it. I do hope they play it on the tour.

The question is, is the Crystal Ballroom a recent recording, and something more indicative of the sound of SOE? I hope the answer is yes.

I was just thinking about that store the other day. I was actually wondering the same thing because I haven't been down to Seaport Village in years. I just looked online and they seem to be still up and running. I must make a point to get over there. :hmm:

I do know of a few, but none of them are real close to me. Also some are real specialized and don't carry U2. But you are right, I'll bet some of them have it.

Too true. One can dream.

I imagine SOE will be a similar hodge-podge of producers, just that lyrically and stylistically they fit that theme better, and once the them took shape, they concentrated in finishing the SOI songs first. It could very well indicate the style of SOE, but t may very well be something entirely different.
