See you at the Popmart....

I've been seeing lots of pictures from Popmart lately, and I'm finding that I sort of miss it. I guess probably because it was my first show.

Tell your fun Popmart tales here...I'll be back with mine later, but right now I've got a meeting to get to!

Ahh popmart..my first u2 concert was popmart. I wasn't even really a fan of the band at the time, I liked the new single and I remembered listening to their older stuff when I was very little. I had heard a rumour that my favorite band, the smashing pumpkins, were opening for them, and so decided I might want to go. I asked my folks if this could be my hs graduation present and my dad ended up buying 2 tickets for the Dallas show, one for me and one for him. I loved the concert, and not having any previous u2 experiences to compare it to...it blew me away. I remember the feeling of singing "Pride" with 40,000 others...it was unlike anything I had felt before. Even during popmart..i sensed their music, their driving force..was different, and something I wanted to learn more about and be a part of. Also, the fact that the concert was a hs graduation present and that I went to it with my father during the last week of high school made it mean even more to me. Since then, I have seen U2 five more times..one popmart and 4 elevations. I love live music and every show I see I find myself comparing to the U2 experience.....

YaY for norman, Ok!!

I have a story but I have to wait till I'm done eating. I (we) posed as catering and tried to sneak backstage until a principle found me and threw me out of there and we also snuck lemons into the show. It was a blur. I think we stole giant trees from somewhere, got thrown out of a 24-7 casino and chased by Troy Aikman and his goons.

Some carload of girls were trying desperately to get my lemon, which I told them Bono gave me. In the mele, the lemon fell out of my pants and rolled down the street underneath a car which ran over it and squashed it as the rain suddenly began to pour.

Okay, everyone, I'm back! It's so pathetic. It's only 10:00 and I could just keel over right now. What to blame it on? I can hardly blame it on daylight saving's time anymore!

Okay...My first ever U2 show was Popmart in Chicago. I went with my mom and dad and my cousin. My mom has been a fan since the JT days, and HER first show was Zootv in Detroit (at the Silverdome). She actually also went to the first show for Popmart in Vegas, but anyway...this is about me! I had always enjoyed their music because of my mom, but I really became a fan that night. Our seats were on the floor near a little press booth (I think?) and we saw Morleigh in there. That was cool. Anyway, the show was AMAZING! We could see them pretty well when they went out on the catwalk.

Then there's Popmart in Detroit on Larry's birthday. It was amazing. My mom and I were on Wire at the time, and we met some of those people at a bar prior to the show, and we sang U2 karaoke, which was a blast. We had tickets in section A4, row 20, but to make a long story short, we ended up standing at the end of the catwalk. So incredible! The whole band walked right by us when they came on for the show.

Man, I'll never forget the excitement in the air when Pop Muzik began to play and you just KNEW the band was about to come out!

And, while we're talking about POP, what's your favorite song off the album? Mine varies, but right now I've really grown to appreciate "Do You Feel Loved?"

Do You Feel Loved is amazing..the groove kicks and the words are great too. To me..its a good exploration of the meaning of lust..and how it often replaces love....I love Mofo and live Please as well...and Wake Up Dead Man...

Mofo, for me, was such a GREAT opening to the tour. Such energy! And you could just feel that energy surging through the crowd. Oh, and I agree, Please live is great too!

Wake up Dead Man...I really love that song. It's so foreboding and sad, but it always makes me feel good 'cos it's like, "hey, I know how you feel." It's like, I'm not alone, you know?

OK, I'm gonna sum up PopMart in one long sentence or else I'll be here all night, telling my big long boring stories:

PopMart Vegas, what fun, sat with other Propaganda people from all over the world, PopMart Tempe, met Bono kind of by accident, lots of great pics, Do You Feel Loved absolutely perfect, PopMart Oakland, sat by the b-stage next to a guy from Dublin, second night had fourth row center seats, could see Liam's bloodshot eyes, not to mention Bono & Edge, did AIWIY first time in the tour. WHAT MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!

Oh, sorry, I guess that was two sentences, sort of.

Hey, no stories are boring!

I have a couple of my mom's from Vegas...

I guess David Schwimmer from "Friends" was at that show, and my mom saw him in a hotel lobby with some of his friends...

My mom, her sister, and her friend took a cab out to the stadium but they didn't want to take one back to their hotel because the line was massively long, so they found these people with a pickup truck and rode back into the city with them. I guess there was some random guy passed out in the back of the pickup....Sheesh! Why in heaven's name would you go to a U2 show and get drunk? I mean, wouldn't you want to remember it the next morning?

There were NO people getting beer or popcorn in Detroit, I'm proud to say. But in Chicago I saw a few...Silly, silly people!

I miss Popmart as well. It reminds me of dating my first girlfriend and how I listened to it every night when he broke up with me. It sounds sad, but it was a worthwhile experience.

Another thing I liked about those Pop days was the fact that there was more energy. Bono was constantly jumping around on stage, the Edge was acting crazy and wearing colorful clothing, and Adam was wearing a damn operators mask! Those were fun days! Now, it seems like U2 is just tired.

How I wish they would dress up like that once again....

June 25th, 1997...Popmart Madison...my very first U2 concert.

I went with my parents and my older sister. She was almost 18, I was 15, and we fought like cats and dogs for most of the trip there (about a three and a half hour drive) and during the opening act because she was pissed off at having to see U2 because they sucked and there were so many better things she could be doing.

It was the night of my life though...I cried during every song...I was so excited when I first saw Bono that I was having problems breathing and was practically hyperventilating. *lol* I kept standing on my chair to get a better view, but I would lose my balance. Lucky for me, there was a guy next to me who caught me everytime and just smiled...he didn't mind.

Those concert tickets were the best gift my parents ever gave me...(okay, it's a tie between the Popmart tickets and the Elevation tickets ).

My sister now admits that the show was good, and she likes U2 now, largely due to ATYCLB (which I bought her a copy of).

Okay, so I'm not alone in this? It really DID seem like there was more energy then, in my opinion. I mean, Elevation was GREAT, but with Popmart...It was just like, "Wow!" All hail the craziness!

Went to PopMart Chicago I - MTV had a pre-reception in one of the suites. Preceded to drink a lot of Mai Tai's (sp?). Remember being a great show, and falling off my chair (standing) and taking down the whole row.

Didn't drink before before PopMart Minneapolis so I could actually take in the show - vowed never to drink a lot before another U2 show.

"You miss too much these days, if you start to DRINK." My little twist on the lyrics.
