Bono has been accused of such in the video...

I'm not so sure...

Obviously he would have really had to throw himself into that song to sing it...

He might have really been that impassioned singing this one live back in those days...

Seriously another thread???

This could have been easily done in another one of the existing threads.

And yes, way over-acting...

I think most music videos (by everyone) are over-acted.

Both of the above quoted for truth.

I think there's some over-acting in the RHMT video, but, well, Bono over-acts in plenty of music videos. The majority of them, probably. It's hardly unusual.

Yup

Yup - another thread as this is a very specific question.

And...no.... I don't think this is over-acting...

How could you over-act such a serious and emotional song with such an amazing vocal.

As a matter of fact.... I would argue that the song demands it.

If anything, I'd say Bono looks less awkward in the RHMT video than he does in the video for IWF.

Still, their attempt at seriousness in this video sails wide left into hilarity. I really wonder how it would have been received in 1987, when U2 was The World's Most Earnest Band™.

 Agreed wholeheartedly.

I think Bono's performance in the video is no different than his 1987 live stage presence was, only he's looking directly into the camera instead of staring off into oblivion as he sings.

You can over-act anything, no matter how serious or emotional...

And no this song didn't demand a caricature.

why do we need another thread?

And yes, obviously he is overacting. So are Edge and Adam with the cheesey birds. Larry, however, is underacting.

The whole video is overdone - litteral and cheesey and overacted go hand in hand imo.

Indeed. And a cure for AIDS. But seriously, redhill, you can't deny it; he's over-acting. And that's okay. Bono has always over-acted and probably will continue to do so as long as he's in the public eye. It's just the way he is, it doesn't bother me at all. It might make me laugh, but hey, laughing is good!

Remember the video for I Will Follow?

Yes - who could forget?!

Ok...Ok...he is over-acting in the verse and under-acting in the chorus!

Or maybe even a little over-acting in the chorus?!

Hmmm....

I just had to defend the video in some way for my favorite U2 song!

Rock and Roll Doggie!

I wish it were directed by Michael Bay.

"Okay Bono, you're going to run into that prison door, right? I'll do a slow-mo 360 shot of you before you turn into a beam of light... sound good? I'm the greatest man alive."
