Back in the day, when the album was a few weeks away and how crazy people were for anything to hear…we read these album listening party descriptions like they were the Da Vinci Code and ripped people who didn’t like new songs even though we hadn’t heard them yet…and then album broke online and (I think it was a Saturday or Sunday morning) and everybody was downloading like fiends…

Good times….sniff sniff

Nothing will beat the anticipation and the sounds of the ocean from those crappy ass clips that leaked.

And that All Because of You clip that I spent hours trying to clean up.

the first clip was July 4th, and that might have been the windy ass All Because of You clip.

and yeah, i think you are right, the clip of Vertigo first surfaced in early August.

it was :ABOY windy, Vertigo windy and Spanish, then Miracle Drug and Love and Peace came after. Those were the 4 everyone had.

Love and Peace was the first one to leak in full, although it was a crap recording. and then obviously Vertigo appeared on the radio station from Valencia, I still have the mp3-VErtigo-Valencia.

Prior to that was the 30 second radio promo from Australia I believe which just had a small taste of Vertigo.

Somewhere in ther ewas the 30 second intro to Love and Peace which came before the album was leaked. I think the album leaked on Nov 8th or 9th

haha, i have that Mp3 too.

The Intro to Love and Peace was leaked when a preview of the DVD was available on some website

and you are correct about the order of the clips

Sigh, I remember the good days around when the album was released and just about everyone was united in praise of HTDAAB - we'd even dared to think the Pop and ATYCLB sides had finally been united.

Long time ago now. :sigh:

(I also felt like I was the only person who didn't like the windy Dublin ABOY!)

Ah, scouring dozens of posts written in a language you can't read (like a nut job), hoping to find a link to a clip that you could barely hear because someone was talking over it and then analyzing the clip for hours and trying to decipher the lyrics...
Those were good times...
I can't wait to do it again :hyper:
I'm serious.

I still like the song, I very much like the alternate version better than the album version. Bono is really good on those alt tracks.

I remember very well all the time you spent cleaning up those tracks. Man I don't even remember the windy ABOY clip, but I very well remember the first Vertigo leak, I think the only line you could really make out was "I can feel your love teaching me how". Still love that line, hell I'll admit it, I still love the song.

I should post the RIAA letters I got for hosting those clips, maybe to celebrate on the "anniversary" date.

That whole time was hilarious. I remember sending people copy after copy of the full album leak though I wanted to wait for the official release and refused to listen to it myself. :der:

 I remember that! When did you finally break and listen to the album anyway? I must've bugged you about it at least once a day

I bloody hated that...and the fact everyone was prancing around like it was the greatest thing since Lemon got me rather enraged...

Ahh, those were indeed good time. Fortunately we'll probably get to do it all over again in a few years.

Oh I actually made it until the record store opened the day it was released. I couldn't decide which edition to listen to first. Not that I bought all 3 for myself or anything, that would be crazy. :shifty:

Let's all take a listen to the beach leaks again, shall we? :hyper:

I was late on the bandwagon for remasters for these last two.

Wasn't there a strange mattress commercial that kinda sounded like porn? :hmm:

I think so. I loved how Henry Rollins admitted there weren't any DJs in the studio all day when he interrupted the marathon for the start of his show. Everyone started to doubt the leak would happen at all, but then once his show was over the U2 marathon resumed and everyone was blindly sucked in again

The was fun. I spent that whole summer waiting and coming here every day. I hope I get to do the same next year or the year after. Good times, good times...

I thought the 1:13 or w/e leak of Miracle Drug was beautiful. I thought it was like the verse, not the guitar solo

Here's the commercial that claimed Vertigo would be premiered on Indie 103.1. I believe somebody on the forum asked me to email them this mp3 when they were seeking legal action against the station.

I never listened to the leaks of Miracle Drug and Love and Peace or Else when I downloaded them. I put them in a password-protected zip file to rid myself of any temptation. So much for trying to remain pure... I downloaded the album once it was fully leaked. Didn't some people speculate/argue the copy that everyone was sharing was incomplete?

Man, I used to love this forum

I can't believe you still have all this stuff, I'm so downloading it all. :applaud:

I think I deleted all mine in a rage after the 2nd RIAA letter. Always regretted it though.

I knew there were perks to being a pack rat. The only thing I don't still have are the 231650 recordings I made of Indie 103.1's U2 marathon. I'd give anything to hear Wayne Gretzky's overplayed commercial again

i liked all the hate threads for henry rollins and how people should sue the radio station and have them taken off air forever and omg omg omg EMAIL HATE MAIL TO ROLLINS!!!

I spilled coffee all over my freshly upholstered chair in my excitement during that radio show crap. The stain always reminds me of my uber-dorkiness and Henry Rollins (-bastard). You know he loved the emails...

Good Times, Good Times.....

The anticipation was great!

Now I have the Oct/Nov shows to look forward too :hyper:
